And there’s no indication that it has anything to do with who was winning. Other explanations include the obvious one – that the poll was time-limited, since the journos want to get this piece written before the end of the year, which is in … err … a little over two days.
Will be interesting to see what they publish, that might be more telling than baseless conjecture like this article.
kind of hilariously opaque for some people to have voted her as “person of the year” in 2021 during a pandemic.
Like, really? For doing what exactly?
Apart from complaining about transgender people has she done anything in the past 5 years?
I really hope that in 15 years time (ideally sooner) it’s considered to be just as unacceptable to be a dick to trans people then it is now to be a dick to others in in the LGBTQ community.
The gender criticals are pretty good at pile ons. Looking at their Twitter accounts it’s literally all they do. I don’t think any of them have jobs. They just spend all day shitting on trans people and the media platforms them everyday.
The Guardian has also shut down all comments about Desmond Tutu fighting against apartheid, as it goes against their support of Zionism https://t.co/FrAQhJpaml
While her stances against trans people, primarily trans women can come across as offensive, she is only trying to protect women’s spaces at the end of the day.
Sometimes it looks as if women are not allowed to have an opinion and gatekeep the few spaces that they have or which are available to them without being labelled as aggressive, mean, bigoted etc
I bet a lot of women silently agree with Joanne’s stances and are afraid to be vocal about them for the fear of being cancelled, harassed, doxxed and threatened like Joanne was. This type of behaviour is also mainly coming from trans women too.
Some of them want access to women’s spaces but treat cis women like trash and cis men talk down on cis women for gatekeeping as a way of exerting their male privilege against them.
I’m not trying to be offensive or anything, that’s just my unpopular opinion.
So you don’t actually need to do anything to be person of year? I nominate myself.
I mean fair enough, it was obviously being brigaded in bad faith. It hasn’t been a year where she did much of note.
Its not that theres a difference in opinion. Its that she then intimates that anyone who disagrees with her on transgender people is automatically sexist and evil. Or that youre on the sidr of the idiots who sent her death threats.
Its shutting down opinion by proxy and hypocritcal for someone whos so ‘free speech’.
Even if she’s utterly undeserving of the award, which in my book she is, closing a poll for something you invited people to participate in seems contrary to its spirit in my view. It’s like the whole situation a few years back with ‘Boaty mcboatface:’ Boaty mcboatface is a terrible name for a research vessel however if the decision is supposed to be left up to the public then the organisers should have had the good sportsmanship to accept the decision as made.
I know it’s a public poll but honestly I can’t think why she would even be one of the options ? Has she done anything of note in the last year ?
Anyway I vote Tom stoltman dudes a legend. World’s strongest Man and vocal about his autism.
I don’t get what the headline is even based on? When was the poll supposed to close? When were the results supposed to be announced? How did people know the outcome of the results if the Guardian had released them?
Bit late to the party *but* the first Twitter reaction in this article is from a bloke called “Gordon” who retweets racist stuff from anti-masker/vaxxers lmao
Ah…closing a poll because you are unhappy with who is leading it, that is hilarious.
