IT to be more precise. Other tech sectors are doing better (Weapons!).
We consume it
That graph is so badly displayed/created.
It could easilly be read as if europe/eurozone has just above the US tech sector..
This is an atrocious graph. Upon first glance it appears to suggest the EU is doing better than the US.
This graph hurts my eyes
WTF who did this graph?
America is a European colony, therefore American tech sector is actually European.
A better graph would be on the revenue of said companies. No doubt the result would show a clear American hedge on the matter, no question about it, but this hedge wouldn’t be muddied by all the biases that plagues the price discovery process of the stock market.
Forget comparing “ALL” tech.
All of EU + UK tech sector: 3 trillion
Apple on its own: 3 trillion
So yeha. Not even worth comparing. EU slept on an entire industry and doesnt even managed to bring in EU versions in a small scale to the US ones.
Something both Russia and China have actively achieved, making them more independent.
The 08 to now EU tech approach is one giant failure and needs to be called out each and everytime whenever a new industry is being developed so that the EU doesnt lose out even further (currently: GreenIndustries are becoming critical).
Can you imagine the U.S. Allowing Apple to be sold to a Europe based company? Well thats exactly what the EU and UK allow to happen.
American companies scoop up european tech startups like candy and the EU/UK do nothing to prevent it in the spirit of global trade or whatever. The US however is extremely protectionist and always has been.
Combine this with the fact that Looser regulations, lower taxes and less budrens on employers mean that in general the market for VC funding and startups in general is greater in the US and thats how you get where we are today.
Every time an European company becomes successful it is bought by a US giant.
Whoever made this graph should be taken out back and put down
Please never make a graph ever again 🙏
“If a company is not on the stock market, it doesnt exist.”
“Only internet companies are “tech”, engineering, optics, laser, sensors, defense etc. are not tech.”
Data is not beautiful
Is this graph in miles?
Can someone make a graph we can understand with this data please? I want to know what it is conveying but I cannot from this graph
made by some incompetent idiot, how come that people get money for this???
That’s because Europe is too slow and overregulated when it comes to tech things
I’m surprised so many people dislike this graph. It was very easy to see how the US tech dwarfs the European one.
Europe may have a single market, but it doesn’t have a common language and legal systems, so without the aforementioned prerequisites, Europe should forget about competing with the United States on building up tech companies.
I was saying this same thing over and over again here w/o this chart, but euro fanboys always downvoted me heavily, europe dares to compare itself with china lol
Oh my god someone turn off the 3D setting!
Wonder how it would look without apple, microsoft, meta, google, amazon… they must account for a lot of this?
This data is disgusting
Why is this phrased so badly? It sounds like Europe is lightyears ahead of America from reading the first line of text on the graph.
EU software pay is quite low + most companies even startups have management who like to wear suits.
People talk on the graph, but no one talks how Europe with time will become more and more irrelevant, shrinking in economy, demographics and the world stage being more and more left behind. People will start to take seriously, when images like France in which you had to do something about the retirement age, will become more common and your first world status and quality of life, will start to decreass. Europe needs reforms and try to catch the ball at least in the digital age. Covid, Russia etc should had teached the importance of domestic alternatives.
A log-scale is better here.
I’m sure more tech regulations will fix this lol. Every tech person I know is dreaming of moving to the US. It’s only going to get worse from here with how our EU politicians are acting with regards to tech.
you can’t regulate everything through the nose while expecting risky venture capital to come pouring in at the same time
The coping in here is hilarious
Really? No optic, radar, warfare, energy etc seems to be included
We get what we deserve
Not saying the the tech sector in the US isn’t way larger than in Europe but it’s comprised of more than just “datastream software and computer services” though which is all this graph show…
We all know why. The US tech giants are huge and cash rich. Any decent European companies that are made are snapped up and the owners can’t resist the cash, who can blame them?
As a German, I can tell you! NEVER buy German software. It is either garbage made to look good or just way too expensive for it to be usefull while still missing half your requirements. And even then software like SAP is only successful cause it has well-designed frameworks that integrate German bureaucracy well, which when you fail to follow best practices will have you go bankrupt cause the technology is 20 years old and does not allow for quick refactoring. I think I can count well-designed german software products on one hand.
Define tech. I am sure EU is superior in technologies for producing top class oak barrels for macerated wines for instance.
Americans can have Metas and Googles for what I care …
Who would’ve known the people who invented the internet and legally oversaw the development for some years after it became used by the public would have an edge.
Americans: ugh, Europe is over regulated.
Also Americans: why am I not allowed to sit at my third job
