  1. Is this what Johnson wants to do again in 2024

A Presidential candidate must get at least 270 electoral votes to win. This was the idea in 2020, get rid of Georgia, Arizona, …. and Biden would not have 270 votes. The election decision would go to the House, which has a majority of republican state delegations. Freeing them to vote for Trump.

  2. Just shitting into the mouth of democracy with this choice. Congratulations GOP you managed to remove all of the ambiguity of who you are going to be moving forward.

  3. Proves that Trump still pulls the strings and controls the party.

  4. *We will restore trust in this body* he said in a statement shortly after the vote.

This is the man who led the [amicus brief](https://www.supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/22/22O155/163550/20201211132250339_Texas%20v.%20Pennsylvania%20Amicus%20Brief%20of%20126%20Representatives%20–%20corrected.pdf) signed by more than 100 House Republicans in support of a Texas lawsuit that sought to invalidate the 2020 election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Trust? I think he meant to say “Trump” because clearly, the GOP is still beholden to him.

For those wondering what the outcome of the case that he filed his amicus brief: the Supreme Court determined the case (Texas v. Pennsylvania, 2020) didn’t have standing because Texas had “not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections.”

  5. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

  6. That flushing sound you hear is the USA going down the toilet

  7. Listening to his speech, we are one step closer to Gilead.

  8. JFC, he just said God placed everyone in the position of leadership.

  9. I want to honestly ask any Republicans here what exactly you stand to gain from this. In an election year the GOP should be fighting to control the far right not embrace it.

  10. I have to wonder what they threatened members of their conference with if they didn’t fall in line this time.

  11. Mike Johnson, your new Speaker of the House, everyone!

    #On Abortion
    – “And now… FINALLY… because Roe v. Wade was overturned last summer and Louisiana is now a proudly pro-life state— we will get the number of abortions to ZERO!! EVERYONE deserves a birthday. Thanks be to God

    #2020 Election
    – “I have just called President Trump to say this: ‘‘‘Stay strong and keep fighting, sir! The nation is depending upon your resolve. We must exhaust every available legal remedy to restore Americans’ trust in the fairness of our election system.’”

    Some other fun facts…

    – Supports ending Military aid to Ukraine

    – Says Marijuana is a “gateway drug”

    – Opposes same sex marriage

    – Voted to overturn the election results in Pennsylvania

    – Does not believe in Climate Change

    – Campaigned actively against the anti-bullying Day of Silence

    – Is for privatizing Social Security and Medicare

    – Wants to raise the Retirement Age

Please feel free to add more!

  12. From CNN

    > editorials that ran in his local Shreveport, Louisiana, paper, The Times, Johnson called homosexuality a “inherently unnatural” and “dangerous lifestyle” that would lead to legalized pedophilia and possibly even destroy “the entire democratic system.”

To quote Maya Angelou, “When people show you who they are, believe them the first time”

  13. An actual Seditious Conspirator is now the most Powerful person in DC. Merrick Garland has never been more proud of himself.

  14. This is a intermission, not the end.

The guy has a total of 6 years in Congress, no national profile, and was previously an AM talk show host. He has no experience leading Congress at all, and is the least experienced representative from his own state. No way he can rein in the House GOP.

He’ll be one of the weakest speakers in the history of the House of Representatives.

  15. Please register to vote if you aren’t already. We need to vote these traitors out every chance we get. When these republicans cut your social security and Medicaid, don’t get mad if you didn’t vote. Something is brewing, vote out the crazy!!!

  16. So, the so-called “moderates” of the party voted for the most extreme speaker nominated to-date, after claiming they were going to hold the line. I’m not surprised. You shouldn’t be, either. This is the shit show the Republican Party is. There are no “moderates” left. They are only liars, fascists, cheats and scam artists.

  17. Is there still a clause that any house member can call a vote to remove the speaker? Or was only part of McCarthy’s negotiation

  18. Well might as well get ready for a shutdown, the crazy’s are now in charge.

  19. So, a Trump loyalist in the 2nd spot of succession after the Vice President that would pardon Trump for his federal crimes.

Looks like stochastic terrorism is back on the table boys! (sarcasm of sorts. Really scary sarcasm when there are a body of people that “understand the assignment” out there based on the last 6 years of rhetoric).

  20. A little confused here…. This guys acceptable, but scalise and Jordan aren’t? What the diff, Jordan wasn’t religious extremist enough?

  21. Make no mistake, they are preparing for their next coup attempt.
