Jesus, the amount of people who look at this song through rose tinted glasses and subsequently thinking he’s butchered their ‘baby’ is honestly sad… Get over yourselves ffs😂😂😂.
I await your downvotes, they mean nothing, I know what makes you cheer!
HA
Ed Sheeran fans :
“Who’s Luke Kelly?”
Wasn’t so much poor Ed, he obviously loves the song. It was yer wan singing it with him. It was clear she’d never heard the original in her life. Shouldn’t have tried to last minute cobble it together like that.
I hadn’t the stomach to listen to the whole thing, even the instruments were woeful, but Ed wasn’t the worst of them, that woman who “sang” the second verse would want to be put out of our misery! I’ve no idea who she was but I suppose I should find out so that I can avoid her in the future.
I mean, we’d let Ed off with a lot of things, since he did the Toy Show. But christ, I don’t think there’s letting him off with this one. And yer one who did verse 2? What the fuck did they lay on in the green room???
Jesus Christ, I wasn’t watching it last night but I just looked it up on YouTube and the poor Dubliners must have been spinning in their graves.
I think that’s what happens when someone has so much success. They think they are flawless at everything and no one around them has the balls to call them out or give even the slightest criticism.
I also think, to be fair, that we generally don’t like non-Irish people (especially Brits, lets be honest) singing songs that we consider ours.
There’s no defending the woman though, fuck that was truly awful.
Ed Sheeran murdered a road?!
Misread the title and thought that Ed Sheeran was murdered
The whole thing was a disgrace to the Dubliners memory. He should be jailed when he next steps foot in Ireland.
i read that as ‘after Ed Sheeran murdered last night’, between that and Betty White I was thinking F it this year has already been burnt to the ground
Bet half the people in this thread haven’t listened to or even thought about Raglan Road in years but because two English people sang it ye now HAVE to act like it was shite. Like it wasn’t that bad, cop on.
It was unfair of Ed to drop it on the singer who had never heard the song before. It was a lot of pressure on her, at 23, on a TV set with all the other musicians around, so she did her best to sing it and it didn’t work out. Hopefully next time someone tries this on her she’ll be able to decline or pivot to a song she knows.
Raglan Road is about a stalker folks
To be fair, they did say they didn’t know the song and would need to use an iPhone for the words. Was a bit unfair that it was thrown on them at the last minute.
It was horrendous! But I’m really sick to death of Irish people saying “don’t touch our songs” (comments from the YouTube video). Anyone can sing a song, judge how they sing it not because of who is singing it.
Christ, I doubt it deserves the level of hate it’s receiving in the comments. Obviously it was never going to be a carbon copy of Luke Kelly’s. It was an original take on an Irish standard. It was broadcast to a UK audience by an English singer.
Musically it was not bad, just not to your taste. The unconsidered reactionary hate here is just boring.
ed sheeren sang raglan road? i hope to god i never ever hear that. i’d say his fans don’t even know who luke kelly is
