  1. Friendly reminder that gerrymandered maps are reliant on expected voter participation. High voter turnout can defeat gerrymandering more often than not.

Vote out as many republicans as possible and push for new state laws banning partisan gerrymandering.

  2. NC is insane right now. Raleigh has been growing like 1990s Atlanta. I’ve never seen gentrification so fast on such a large scale. The conservatives have been a good old boy network since reconstruction. That old southern money mixed with new capital to create a new aristocracy that’s hell bent on keeping power. I’ve lived in many southern cities over my lifetime. I can say without doubt that Raleigh-Durham is the coldest, most self centered, arrogant, incompetent big fishes in a small pond that I’ve ever experienced. It feels like an entire city of “don’t you know who I am” influencers that no one recognizes. Our lawmakers are children. Climate change effecting insurance rates? Make the data illegal. Can’t win the vote? Rig the game. It’s a palpable lack of humility.

  3. Can’t they just sue for racial gerrymandering like they did a few years ago?

  4. Republicans twisted themselves in a justifying these maps saying “we used traditional methods” and “minimized dividing municipalities”.

All while splitting my city and county across 3(!) districts to dilute the votes. If they are like the previous maps, I’m now in Virginia Fox’s district whose office is almost 2 HOURS from my home.

  5. I really wish Dems would start fighting back and gerrymander blue states. Cali doesn’t and there are tons of republicans in CA, we could pick up tons of seats and say “we’ll get rid of our gerrymanders when you get rid of yours”. NY state did it last year and I loved it. Can’t play fair with these fuckers anymore

  6. They’ve also very specifically gerrymandered the very popular Jeff Jackson out of his seat. He’s the one with the viral TikTok explainer videos the past year.

Conveniently, the very corrupt GOP Speaker of the House who helped draw the maps has said he’s going to run for Jackson’s seat.

  7. If NC goes off the deep end, GA will be next. They’re sort of the last holdouts of sanity in the Deep South.

  8. A party that can’t pass policy. Only can ban people, things, rights and game the system. Accept bribes in open view of the public in the case of Clarence Thomas. Scare their voters to protect their weapons over all other rights. Every time they need to do the actual job of their job (appoint a speaker and pass a budget), they look like toddlers. They are there to be a mouthpiece for a dictator they are waiting for.

  9. Given the only realistic way to stop gerrymandering is a federal law, unfortunately the best way for Democrats to fight back is to gerrymander in any state they can. Sure, it won’t be easy to get all Democrats to agree to ban gerrymandering, but it would be easier than getting Republicans to agree.

I wouldn’t consider it hypocritical to play by the rules in order to change the rules.

  10. Why is it that the map gets changed every 2 years? Seems like all they ever do is argue about maps and as soon as one gets passed they want to change it again

  11. Republicans are vermin. All of them. These good Christians are going to hell.

  12. North Carolina republicans are a new level of fuckery for those uninitiated with their behaviour. The delightful rep who yelled at reporters to shut up was one Virginia Foxx, a representative in western North Carolina. She’s been dragging her ignorance around the state for decades. The big fellow in the picture is one Ralph Hise. He also has been shaming the state for over a decade.

  13. Can we get a link to the actual map so I know whose campaign to contact?

  14. Screw this paywall crap. If its one thing I’ve learned about reddit is it LOVES paywalls.

  15. Even if you ignore the idea that partisan gerrymandering regularly also gerrymanders in regards to race, just the very idea that the political party in power has been told by the courts that they can intentionally draw election maps to protect their party advantage is one of the most reprehensible thing a politician can do, and they do a lot of reprehensible things already. I doubt they would do it, but if the Democrats ever get in a strong enough position in Congress and have the Presidency I hope they pass a new Voting Rights Act to end this.

  16. Losing Jeff Jackson will be a loss to the entire nation. Please donate to his campaign.

  17. It’s this reason I’m not confident about the House next year. Not sure where Dems will make up the losses. The House is becoming more and more gerrymandered to the point swing districts are disappearing. They’re increasingly solid blue or red, making flipping the House difficult and at best by just a handful of seats.

  18. A part of the problem as I see it. Is we a voters don’t do our do diligence in vetting candidates. Any yahoo can find a podium lie, brandish an assault rifle, or say I’m a Christian and their in. Also when we had better reporters. They would do what amounted to a background check on all candidates. But such is progress

  19. Judge people by what they do. Not what they say.

  20. The only way republicans win is if they cheat. Sad people over there
