  1. ” 26 towns and villages that are not connected to any wastewater treatment plant”

How is that allowed? Surely adequate waste water treatment is a requirement of planning? Disgraceful.

  2. It’s not going to be a cheap fix to address this but it’s urgently needed. I know a lot of people are going to ask where that money will come from and as a Canadian who lives here now…

…I find it mad that you don’t pay for water.

In Ontario you’ll get billed for water usage which goes towards the maintenance of all water related infrastructure. Can anybody explain to me why we don’t pay for our water use here?

  3. As someone who works in the industry, the way this report is compiled annoys me a bit.

So how works is if the plant isn’t up and running on the 1st of January then the epa see it as not in operation for the whole year.

One example is liscannor wwtp. Which had an official opening in July, so was probably working since April. Yet in this report is still being reported as a raw outfall. https://www.clare.fm/news/uisce-eireann-completes-construction-e7m-liscannor-wastewater-treatment-plant/

So from my knowledge at least 4 of the 26 are now receiving treatment as of a few months ago. Possibly a 5th, but I haven’t seen anything about that one but timeliness of its sister project is Spiddal would mean its near completion at least. So that means the list is Possibly 20% bigger than I’d actually is.

I don’t understand why the EPA takes 1st of January information, but only reports it in October.

    Rant over.

  4. That’s 7,500,000 litres, for those who don’t operate on the swimming pool and football field measuring system.

  5. Honestly never go in the sea or water. You think water is clean even without the outflow of sewage you still have so much shit floating in it and parasites it’s disgusting

  6. Irish water have a mammoth job. Read somewhere that 70% of the pipe network in Cork is cast iron and is there a hundred years.

The work involved in digging up and replacing just one section of pipe is huge in terms of time and traffic disruption.

That councils had a policy of only doing the essentials.

  7. How deep are those pools? Divided by 5 million people and each of us don’t get to swim in too much shit.

  8. I’m convinced there are journalists s in Ireland who see what’s happening in the uk and then try and get the same story going over here.

  9. It’s getting more and more sulphurous due to the increase in spicy food too
