Jack Smith Asks Court To Jail Trump If He Keeps Yapping About Witnesses | The special counsel’s new court filing wants a federal gag order reinstated with time behind bars if Trump violates it.

  1. I’m trying really hard not to get my hopes up, but I can’t help but be heartened by the way that Smith is clearly playing hardball. He genuinely seems to think he can win this.

  2. At a certain point, Drumpf’s ability to fundraise off of being held liable for being an arch criminal and total jerkoff will hit a wall.

His most ardent loyalists do not have unlimited funds.

  3. > The gag order in Washington, D.C., is not to be confused with the one that Trump violated Wednesday at his civil financial fraud trial in New York City.

Imagine being on trial for so many things that the media needs to clarify which trial they are reporting on.

  4. Fuck, just lock him up for ONE day.

I want to see that orange twat in a matching orange jumpsuit.

Next one after that… a WEEK.

  5. It might just come to it, but it could take some time.

I know everyone’s beyond frustrated with how this is seemingly being slow-walked, but everyone should keep in mind:

Huge sanctions or incarceration pending trial means *nothing* if Trump succeeds in getting delays or corrupting his prosecution through appeals.

In a lot of ways, this is what Trump wants – he wants to become a martyr and receive some sort of penalty to launch a first amendment or habeas corpus appeal that can delay his trial beyond the election. It’s a tall order, but it’s not impossible. And it’s probably his best chance of throwing sand in the gears.

Because of this, someone like Chutkan does not want to give him that foundation. The gag order is only a week or two old and is currently stayed. She really needs to go through the (frustrating) motions and give warnings, gradually increased sanctions, etc.. until she considers incarceration.

Yes, that wouldn’t be afforded to many other defendants and our justice system is broken in a lot of ways, but she still has to work within that system. And her only goal is to get him to trial. Everything else takes a huge backseat to that.

But ultimately, she also needs to protect the integrity of the trial and the safety of those involved (including herself).

So it’s a balance and people should have a little patience, as difficult as that is. Chutkan knows what she’s doing, and she ultimately knows the best route to hold Trump accountable.

  6. No reason why Trump should be treated any differently from any other defendant.

If his sycophants protest with violence – charge them with terrorism & put them in jail pending trial too.

  7. The Justice system is so unfair to Trump. This could be any one of us. If this was one of us here on Reddit, then we would have been in jail already…. oh wait. /s

  8. The gag orders are just legal window dressing. It is, and has always been, illegal to tamper with witnesses. Yet he’s been doing it openly since this farce began.

  9. I actually think being forced to testify under oath about his “yapping” was an uncomfortable ordeal for Trump. He gets to express his First Amendment rights under the risk of perjury. It’s pretty perfect.

  10. Noice…

Trump has Jack Smith on one side demanding he be jailed for violating his gag order. And he has Fani Willis on the other side quickly rolling up his co-conspirators and turning them into witnesses against him.

  11. I’m telling you right now y’all gonna have the first felon as president of The United States in history.

  12. We’re not asking for much. Just some justice, and equal treatment under the law. It’s the little things.

  13. The article and headline are misleading.

Jack Smith made his argument for the gag order with new examples and also requested the judge to clarify the bail conditions.

He correctly points out that Trump is subverting the no contact condition by using social media for indirect contact.

  14. How are we still dealing with this? A functioning system would have placed that traitorous POS in pretrial confinement a long time ago. Anyway, yeah, I just answered my own question.

  15. Trump just proves how hyper rich powerful American’s get special treatment and aren’t held to remotely the same standard the average person would be.

  16. The next step is for Trump to spend 1 day in jail (not even an overnight) that will DRAMATICALLY shift the perception that he can’t go to jail. It might even help him STFU because he’ll know that he’s not untouchable.

    Just 6 hours.

  17. I think a simple compromise is house arrest, no internet access. Then a former President isn’t in jail, causing all kinds of logistics issues with the Secret Service but he’s off the internet not spouting his bullshit, and frothing up his base. Post someone at the door to monitor visitors. Done.

PS – And no golf. Sitting in his tacky golf resort and having to watch other people play golf would be the ultimate torture for him.

  18. It’s about time he gets treated like every other criminal

  19. This should have already happened. He has been intimidating witnesses or at least trying to for months.

  20. I sometimes wonder what Trump would chose as his last meal as a free man. Like, which value meal do you think is his favorite?

  21. About time, before people completely lose faith in legal system.

  22. ANYONE ELSE would be arrested and charged for witness tampering.

Different rules for the different classes.

  23. I think they should. He keeps running his mouth because he is never held accountable for his actions. He thinks being fined is a joke.

  24. Are Smith’s witnesses being given protective custody? How do the witnesses and their families feel about a very powerful man trying to intimidate them with threats of violence? His followers certainly have made it clear they intend to help him out.

  25. We ALL want that.

It’s about time something gets through his thick fucking head and that’s about the only thing that will work.

  26. I know it’s ts silly but here’s a lady’s observation (that doesn’t know a lot about politics, not American but trying to follow) and probably completely irrelevant but it’s funny to me.

Trump does not have a spray tan. A spray tan is a full body application. He uses foundation every morning, which is confirmed by two maids/ladies who cleaned up after him and laundered his clothes, who noted he has dark orange smudges on his collars every day and one maid gave the brand name of his foundation since he left it by the sink and its a crappy dollar store brand. (You’d think he could at least spring for Estee’ Lauder or Nars!)

You can see the whites around his eyes and the colour of his ears his natural skin tone.

The thing with foundation (especially cheap) is that it oxidises with your skin and the air around you as the day goes on – making it much more orange even though it looked fine in the morning. It reacts with oils in your skin and makes it appear darker and way more noticeable, especially in real daylight. Look at the pics of him golfing wearing a t-shirt, notice how pale his arms are and compare it to his face, easier to hide his makeup with a suit.

    BUT!!!

I am in no way shaming anyone, male or female who wears makeup, far from it. If you want to even out your skin tone, hide scars or dark circles, rock some eyeliner/guyliner, go for a full glam face- go for it! I’m all for it! I’m all for confidence and feeling comfortable in your own skin and being content and not self conscious. **But Trump would rather die than admit it.**

So if/when he is finally jailed, or penalised as such and we see his real face, my point is that he will lose his shit. If we’re ever in a situation where he doesn’t have a hairbrush, back-comb, hairspray, foundation, he will see himself as weak because he is as vain as they come, and he will get nastier to get control and power back.

To be honest, if he’d just invest in a £15 pot of setting powder or spray he’d look a lot better.

But his grooming is a crutch, his shoe lifts, suits, makeup, hair stuff – all that will be gone when things don’t go his way.

I think rather than taking his money away, the bigger punishment would be to show him without all of these vanity things because for him, it will make him look weak and vulnerable and that’s much worse for him. It’s his weakness. Personally I don’t give a shit if people don’t see me with makeup, I have redness in my face and uneven skin and am super pale but I have a nice smile – I’m comfortable with what I look like and my close one’s love me just the way I am – the same can’t be said for him.

I don’t think we will see a day when he is imprisoned, sadly. But if he does, that’s where it really hurts him – his vanity.

But fingers crossed? And Jack Smith is doing an amazing job

  27. Let’s put this in context.

The 45th president of the United States of America has just been threatened with a “time out” if he won’t stop threatening other children on the play ground.

    What happened to maturity?

    What happened to self awareness?

    What happened to political service?

How is this man the prototype for all things Republican?

  28. LONG overdue. Any normal citizen would have been locked multiple times for the stunts he pulls.

  29. PLEASE follow through with this. The orange toddler has gotten away with violating every single order.

  30. Trump’s cult members need to get used to him being in jail anyway. Remember how each indictment got less and less attendants and live coverage? It’s like that. Put him away for a weekend. The first time will be huge news and they’ll all whine and cry about it but quickly get over it and forget about it once he’s out. Then next time do a week. It’ll be news again but not as much. Then keep doing it. Eventually it will become old news that trump is locked up that hopefully by the time he’s found guilty the psychos that will commit crimes on his behalf will be so used to seeing him locked up that they will believe it’s all part of “the plan”.

Not to mention it’ll be good practice and trial run for the authorities to figure out the logistics of putting an ex-president in prison.

  31. I think it’s only a matter of time before Trump is jailed. He’s really not as popular as portrayed in MSM. Jailing him will not result in 10,000 people in every major city hitting the streets.

  32. All talk, he should have been locked up and have fiftyleven counts if contempt already

  33. a hundred felonies, a half century of committing crimes, and he’s still on his lifelong vacation living a life that 99.99% of human beings could only dream of

  34. He needs to be brought on the bench and forced to explain his stupid tweets or whatever. On tv. He always acts tough when he is outside of the courtroom. Embarrass that fraud

  35. If any other American acted as Trump does during his many trials, they would definitely be in jail. Trump should be in jail.
