Dystopia Dublin; 1300 a month for a room in a house share with 4 others

  1. Casually perusing through Daft and I managed to come across this gem; 1250 for a ROOM, not an apartment, just a room, per month. And its not even like its a house where youre only with one other-no no-you gotta share all the facilities and mess with 4 other strangers. What the ever living fuck?

Whoever owns the house/is setting the rent this high, I hope you see this, you greedy, cretinous, little pig.

  2. i thought, hey not too much worse than new zealand, then i remembered the exchange rate is 2x or 3x, eek! people wonder why homelessness is a thing

  3. Must be very tough for the landlord /s

€6,250 a month or €75K a year. Their mortgage must be unreal.

  4. We should start a Renters Militia (!)

Have a base in Athlone, a war room inside , full of screens with boffins working on ways to find extortionate rates quickly and shut the advertising down with hundreds of robot calls pointed at them, no site is safe. Our code is ‘A renter rights declaration’ that sets rents at 2006 levels, anyone renting above that gets their lives turned upside down.

We’re not wimps either , pets are taken and sold , gardens are injected with bleaching agents, billboards are sprung up with landlords mugshots. The end of exploitation is brought by the people on the ground, the 430k working people living with their parents under 40 are the muscle, invisible to the world, waiting by the unholy glow of their Signal app … waiting to bring hell!

    This is a joke , don’t @ me !!

  5. That’s ludicrous. Not to rub it in, but in Belfast I pay £560 for a four bedroom house. Could some of ye not live here and commute?

  6. I think this is a case of other tenants in the property trying to reduce their own rent. Landlords are bound by heavy regulation now especially when it comes to setting rents. So if the other tenants manage to find someone desperate enough to pay this rent, they reduce their own probably by about 150 each

  7. Surely they must be expecting 2 people, a couple to rent it ?

  8. This is bad but not the worst. The house is nice with a huge garden and it is beside st enda’s. It’s a half hour to town or less if youre a decent cyclist.

Having said that, you are sharing a house and living in a suburb. The owner of this place is getting 70k+ rent a year, which is just fuxking nuts, even if half of it goes to the government.
