You can tell he was defeated before the drone even showed up. His last moments was sitting in some random crater, probably hungry and sick due to not being given food and having to drink from puddles. It’s starting to get cold and they know it’s only going to get colder. At this point he has probably seen or at least heard of the 10s if not 100s of people that have died at his location in recent days. At this point he knows it’s inevitable and delaying it is just delaying the suffering. Die now or die later, hungrier, sicker, and colder, after even more of your friends died trying my to hold some random empty field.
