Basically I am the only one in my family to change my citizenship (I am Turkish) but a family friend informed us that upon leaving their Turkish citizenship they had difficulties with their inheritance from Turkey.

This matters to me a lot because of my family history and heritage in Turkey so what exactly do I write to explain why I want to keep my Turkish citizenship as well without sounding like a pompous ass to the German officer looking at this? Is there a word that I can put down explaining this situation?

  1. Wait a bit until the law changes and you don’t have to renounce your Turkish citizenship

  2. My own personal opinion that no one asked for: A citizenship comes with benefits and drawbacks, your german ID in your wallet should have more value to you than the PayBack or IKEA Family cards next to it. So what do you value more, the Turkish citizenship and it’s pros and cons or German citizenship? Both have good and bad sides.

  3. As far as I know you can get a “mavi” card after leaving the turkish citizenship. You’ll have all rights of a turkish citizen except for voting. You can’t do that anymore…

  4. If your country does not belong to the exceptions, you will lose your Turkish nationality, it is not allowed to have dual nationality, if you do not renounce it you do not get the German one.

  5. Don’t do this, it’s not worth it to lose your Turkish citizenship
