Labour demands answers over £330k of ‘levelling up’ fund awarded to fill potholes of Tory peer Viscount Gage

  1. Because the headline doesn’t make it clear, and the first paragraph is actively misleading; this is to fix potholes on a road that leads to a local museum and and art gallery, which feature work by local artists and have details on the history of the area.

It’s worth pointing out because it really really feels like iNews are doing their best to mislead people into thinking it was for his own private driveway to his front door.

  2. Even if this is used by the public, was this really the most important use for £330k in the local area? I keep seeing people saying “but the public use it” and no one asking why this road needed attention more than plenty of other local issues.

  3. When they said levelling up, they simply meant it literally.

That 0.1 percenter Tory peer Viscount bloke certainly has a damn level driveway now. 🙌

  4. For f-s sakes. This is duck islands all over again.

It on private land owned by this guy (though some charitable trust).

Hardly a mass visited site, we’re not talking Stonehenge or Hadrians wall. Its basically a private project.

330k is a heck of a lot of money. For god ‘s sakes don’t these guys know their limits to their fucking corruption? Jesus.

People are on the verge of starving and a Peer gets one of his driveways tarmaced using public money. The wankers are laughing at us.

Sorry this one really does piss me off.

  5. I get that it was used to improve a road- but did they consider what else that 330k could be used for in the area?

  6. East Sussex is basically greater London at this point. I don’t believe in leveling up (I mean I literally don’t think it’s possible), but if I did I’d be asking why leveling up funds were being deployed in east Sussex. Wtf? Maybe we should spend some of it in The City too?

  7. If I was going to embezzle a third of a million quid, it would be spent on hookers, drugs, holidays and Lego. Not a fucking driveway.

I’m disappointed by Tory corruption, but part of that disappointment is rooted in how insanely boring their corruption stories are.

  8. >A DLUHC spokesperson said: “Charleston has not received any money from the Levelling Up Fund.
    >
    >“This project was allocated funding from the Getting Building Fund by the South East Local Enterprise Partnership, whose independent evaluators assessed it as offering value for money.

details about the fund from the govuk site

    >The government announced a £900 million Getting Building Fund to deliver jobs, skills and infrastructure across the country. This investment is being targeted in areas facing the biggest economic challenges as a result of the pandemic. It is supporting the delivery of shovel-ready infrastructure projects, agreed with mayors and Local Enterprise Partnerships to boost economic growth, and fuel local recovery and jobs.

dont think the south east is necessarily the most worthy of the money, but maybe it’s not as terrible as it all seems. by that description above, charleston IS eligible for it. by all means that rich lord cunt should pay for it, but why wouldn’t you request/apply for a grant if you are eligible for it?

  9. I feel like this is being misrepresented somewhat by Labour. The vast majority of that money – £240k – is going on building a new cycle path running alongside the A27 which goes via Charleston. This will connect up some disjointed parts of the path that runs basically from Brighton to Glynde and Charleston. The road to Charleston House is completely fucked, you fear for your car’s wellbeing as it tips on two wheels and plunges on the other side into a foot deep puddle. The work really needed doing as Charleston is a big driver for tourism in the area. That said…fuck the Tories…and especially Gage.

  10. The reality of this fund money being awarded to a Toff and his Country Pile stinks of everything the Conservative Party stands for . The entitled and privileged will always come off best under Boris Johnsons morally corrupt Government , it makes you Sick .

£330.000. for a road resurfacing project paid for in the obscene levelling up nonsense Johnson spouts . These fake titles they award each other is farcical , time to change government .

  11. This is a perfect example of Tories’ bare-faced contempt for you, me and absolutely everyone who’s struggling for a wholesome lifestyle.

Let us all vote for an egalitarian system in the next general election.

  12. > “I would therefore be grateful if you could let me know how this happened and what steps are being taken to ensure it does not happen again.”

    Good luck with that.

  13. I look up to him but down on him. Class slavery in the U.K. is systemic. Vote anything but not Tory for Christ’s sake. They are slave traders, racists, facists, liars, thieves and fiscal locusts.

  14. I’ve been to Charleston. It’s absolutely crap and attracts toffee-nosed devotees of the rich entitled Bloomsbury wankers who liked to hang out down there writing their dreary books and poems and daubing paint on chairs inbetween shagging each others spouses. It really is the worst ‘cultural’ offering in the UK.

That money would be better spent improving the Brighton suburb of Whitehawk for example.

  15. I think the answer is that the Tory party is a pyramid scheme full of crooks.

The time for “Demanding Answers” has passed, can we stop pretending that there is a Perfectly Reasonable and Above Board explanation for all this and start telling people how their money is being spent?

  16. If people don’t like it, don’t fucking vote Tories. It really is as simple as that. The fact that they do means the public doesn’t give a shit and is quite ok with the corruption, until it effects them directly that is. Our country is inherently selfish, and our leaders are merely a reflection of our society. I mean, they don’t come from anywhere else, they come from us, we produce this ilk.
