Some absolute moments that year, in order of appearance:
1. Possibly the most dominant and clinical display in any English sport in the last 20 years, as England beat the AB’s in a remarkably comfortable fashion in the RWC semi-final (maybe best not to mention the final, however)
2. England win the Cricket World Cup final as hosts, viewed by over 7 million people domestically at it’s peak, it becomes the first time a cricket match has been watched by this many people since the 2005 Ashes Series
3. Liverpool become the first English team to win a Champions League title since Chelsea in 2012, though their campaign is perhaps most famous for their second leg 4-0 victory over Barça to bring the agg. to 4-3 in the semi-finals
4. Hamilton wins his 6th world title at the US Grand Prix, with two rounds to go, further continuing his dominance of the sport and cementing his 3rd title in a row
5. England make their presence known at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, though not making the final, the competition sparked something of a renaissance for Women’s Football in England and ultimately led to England’s victory in the 2022 Euros
