    >The move follows a nationwide referendum two years ago in whch Swiss voters narrowly approved forbidding niqabs, which leave slits for the eyes, and burqas as well as ski masks and bandannas that are worn by some protesters.

    >With the lower house vote, parliament cemented the ban into federal law and set a fine of up to 1,000 francs (about $1,100) for violators. The measure prohibits covering the nose, mouth and eyes in both public spaces and private buildings accessible to the public, though it does allow for some exceptions.

  2. Ok with what now will hard working, down do earth fellow rob a bank?! This makes me sad.

  3. Good. A civilized society has its premise predicated upon secularism.

  4. Moral relativism or moral objectivism? If relativism then how does that fit in with globalisation and immigration?

  5. Are face masks still good to counter the police state?

  6. And here we have the first link on the chain of the right of privacy in Europe going down the toilet.

Edit: Wait, the laws in Belgium and France are as all encompasing as this one, or are they a more tone down and specific version?

  7. They’ve taken their time, this referendum was two years ago!

  8. I guess children can’t dress as ghosts for Halloween anymore.

  9. I hope religion dies out faster, the sooner its gone the better it is.

  10. How will this affect medical face coverings like the masks everyone has to wear during COVID?

  11. I’m against the idea of telling people what they should wear for the most part, obviously it makes sense to prohibit certain things for the sake of decency (though this is an artificial construct, a lot of Europe is cold so these ideas are very firmly entrenched now) and security (where concealing your face can be viewed as a threat.

Im no fan of islams determination to keep women covered up, I understand where it comes from but I don’t like it. I don’t like a lot of things but that has no bearing on whether they should be legal.

I ask myself what business it is of a government to mandate clothing choices? And then I ask myself why bring people into your country only to try to prohibit their clothing choices?

I don’t like the smell of any of this stuff.

  12. Good, Burqas and other full-face coverings are not “obligations” according to Islam. Europeans shouldn’t let extremists fool them otherwise for the sake of religion freedom

  13. Needs to be done all across Europe! Not only for crime, but if you don’t respect your women enough to not force them to cover up their whole faces, then maybe you should go back to your country.
