The PSNI is conducting enquiries following a report that flags bearing anti-asylum seeker messaging were erected in Co Antrim.

The flags were erected in the Crocknamack Road area of Portrush on Saturday morning.

A photo provided to the Belfast Telegraph shows one of the flags, which carries the message: “Ulster says no to asylum seekers. Charity begins at home!”

Inspector Sarah Gill said: “We received a report shortly after 9am on Saturday morning, 28th October that two men who were carrying ladders, had erected a number of flags on lampposts.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and enquiries are underway.

“If you noticed anything suspicious in the area or have dash-cam, CCTV or mobile footage, contact police on 101, quoting reference 441 28/10/23.”

“Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.”

  1. >Charity begins at home!

The far right, renowned for their charity at home.

  2. Imagine fleeing a war zone and ending up in Portrush, poor bastards

  3. I’m starting to think that they don’t actually speak for all of Ulster.

  4. Portrush has a nasty wee thing in it – more so than your normal right wing loyalist. I think there was a significant BNP vote even after the party had mostly imploded.

  5. Desperate to know which charities the loyalist paramilitaries are supporting?

  6. And to think, Portrush used to be a haven for hippies and alt folks.

    It’s fallen far.

  7. Loyalists really are disgusting, aren’t they?

  8. 100% whoever put that sign up wouldn’t take in a homeless ex soldier ( as that’s who they always cite)

  9. How does this warrant a police investigation? We aren’t allowed to say no to more immigration? I’ve been against this mass inflow of immigrants for years now, but I’m seeing more and more people waking up and saying enough is enough. People can’t get GP appointments, young people can’t afford to rent their own place, never mind the idea of one day owning their own home. Schools are at capacity, employers have an endless supply of workers keeping wages stagnant, while the cost of everything increases.

We are a tiny country, in a massive world. So why do they come here? It isn’t for the food or weather. You’re an absolute moron if you support the mass immigration taking place.

  10. Not excusing the above, which is unacceptable – but there is a growing nastiness against asylum seekers and the hotels filled with them across the whole island at the minute..

I have seen various pages set up in Southern Ireland and up north which are against A.S, and I think both sides of the border have had protests of sorts.

I wonder if the same ppl north and south have any other political alignments..

  11. Not that I’m endorsing the message in any way, because I’m not, but:

Portrush, Portstewart both have a massive housing issue. People from the area can’t afford to buy due to the cash buyers from the holiday home market, and there’s little to no social housing available.

Both towns have also had a huge influx of asylum seekers and licenced prisoners etc being homed in the area. It’s caused a lot of friction and a lot of jealousy.

It’s also another example of the government failing its people and creating these issues.

  12. I think we need to define Ulster again for some people.

  13. That be a response to the terrorist supporting Hamas march recently.
