Yesterday I watched Sisu with friends. I was expecting in-depth, character orientated Finnish war drama. Instead what I got was a Tarantino version of a Finnish Rambo movie on steroids.
At some point in the movie we checked description again to make sure we were watching a war drama, not a satirical comedy.
Dear Finns, what is your opinion of this movie?
EDIT:
TO CLARIFY
We were at my at my friends house and tiring to find a movie to watch with our group. We were bouncing around between Netflix and Telia TV’s rental service. In the end my friend rented Sisu from Telia – not from Netflix, as it was pointed out its not even on Netflix yet. Clearly my mistake.
Now on Estonian Telia TV the movie is described as Finnish war drama. [IMAGE](https://scontent.ftll3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/370229526_638763291761066_3380121090653753038_n.png?_nc_cat=100&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=8cd0a2&_nc_ohc=PdGNEsUjIVEAX8cmtdo&_nc_ht=scontent.ftll3-1.fna&oh=03_AdS9NLc1KOlBkUy1ozYgAZ1YyERNuYnvaV6_idko6aW5-g&oe=6566257B) of the description. “Soome sõjadraama” means exactly that – Finnish war drama. This was my only prelude to watch this movie, it was not marketed that heavy in Estonia.
For some reason many people presumed I hated the movie. That is not the case. I was glued to the screen and I enjoyed the over the top action scenes. As an action movie its awesome, I simply went in with different expectations.
But my confusion (because of the drama label) got the best of me and so the post was made.
I’m sorry if a came across ignorant with my original posting – guess I deserve the downvotes.

I kind of liked it. Don’t know why you’d expect a war-drama, since it wasn’t marketed as such.
When lifting weights and I want to give up mid-set, I imagine Jorma’s character giving me a disappointed look.
It’s awesome. But yeah for sure it’s pulp kind of vain.
Here comes butthurt finns now downvoting you
Weird that it was described as a war drama, it is a tongue-in-cheek splatter movie about killing nazis and never pretended to be anything else
Its a shit movie but it was entartaining.
It’s got very Død snø vibes. I’m not sure where you got the idea that it was a serious movie, the trailer isn’t particularly serious.
The Nazis speaking English was a persistent annoyance throughout the film.
Other than that it was pretty entertaining. And the same guy that directed this did Rare Exports so I wasn’t expecting some heavy war drama anyways, he has a specific style.
Yeah, great disappointment🤯🔫 just like a classic b-class movie 😤
Good movie, you should probably have checked a synopsis if you were searching for an actual drama.
Have to quote Harrison Ford on this one. “Hey kid..”

You want historically accurate war movie? Watch the unknown soldier
I have not seen it and don’t consider it worth watching.
> I was expecting in-depth, character orientated Finnish war drama.
That would be The Unknown Soldier (2017).
I thought it was a satirical comedy? I haven’t seen it. The trailer doesn’t hide the tone though it’s pretty obvious what it’s going for I thought.
It’s a great movie. I’m looking at the blue-ray cover and nowhere it says war drama tho
English speaking nazis driving russian tanks that didn’t even exist yet was a big turnoff. There was also a scene where the protagonist uses a dead body to protect himself against a .50 cal. Dumb shit, but entertaining
Its stupid and yet another poor try to whitewash finnish alliance with Nazi Germany.
Dunno why its labeled as a drama, its more of a explotation movie.
[the director, Jalmari Helander](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jalmari_Helander) uses Finnish heritage as a jumping point to the world of his own. Nothing wrong in that.
Netflix and their categories is a different thing.
I find it weird anyone could avoid knowing beforehand that this is an over-the-top, Tarantino-like splatter action/comedy.
I haven’t seen the movie, but after reading a single random review I know that the main badass brings down an airplane using a pickaxe.
I would not be anticipating a serious war movie.
they were forced to write the script on gun point
Näkemättä paska (haven’t seen so it must be trash)
It’s a fun action film. Had a good time watching it with the Mrs. We both enjoyed it a lot.
Shit made for the Yankee market. But hey Finland, torille!

-A Finn.
As yes, the movie where the Germans are raiding Lappland in a Soviet T-55 that was put into service in 1948.
Netflix has a trailer feature, I recommend watching the trailers before the movie if you have no idea what the movie is about. None of Sisu’s trailers would mislead you as to the type of movie Sisu was. I think it was directed by the same folks who did the John Wick movies. It’s a mindless, violent, shoot em up (which is absolutely fine!), and never portrayed itself as anything different.
I am a big fan of Tarantino movies, so I liked this movie as well. There was some similar elements than in Tarantino movies.
Totally freaking awesome, that’s what I thought of it. John Wick in Lapland basically.
You clearly did not check what movie it is.
We watched it when it was in Cinemas last winter. Me and my girlfriend (she is Finnish) loved it but her Dad’s only comment was “well it wasn’t very realistic” 😂
