  1. I’m shocked to find relaxed gun laws don’t help. Have we tried arming kids?

  2. Which modern democratic country has the fewest gun related deaths per capita?

    and

Can we try their solutions for a few decades just in case we are the idiots?

  3. So he wasn’t able to restrict the publication of gun death like he was able to restrict publication of COVID death?

  4. Gun violence skyrockets in the year following a state allowing permitless concealed carry. Just think, about 20% of the population has what is considered a “serious mental illness”-bipolar, ptsd, severe depression, schizophrenia, etc. Apart from that 20%, you have another large group of people with anger issues/poor impulse control. Now all these people are suddenly allowed to concealed carry so any public meltdown, grievance, road rage incident, etc, now has a gun in play. Texas minted thousands of fresh felons the year after permitless concealed carry was implemented-all people with no criminal record, all gun charges related to poor impulse control. There really is no combination like road rage and a gun within reach to turn an otherwise normal (but angry) person into a Mad Max movie extra.

  5. A few things.

Newsweek’s “fairness meter.” I don’t give a shit about fairness. I care about verifiable, proven, facts. Fuck your feelings.

I agree with Red Flag laws, I truly do. At the same time though, I get the strong impression that this guy would have just gotten his guns back because the police don’t want to enforce them, and/or someone he knew would have gotten him one if he asked (obviously he would leave out the murdering innocent people part).

Red Flag laws need to be amended so that if someone has a Red flag on their file and someone knowingly enables them either through lax enforcement or because someone they know says “fuck the government my clearly unstable friend/family member can have a gun if they want!” gets hit with a nice long sit in a small concrete room.

  6. “Shadows in the Land of Dreams” composed by ChatGPT

In the land where dreams should flourish bright, A shadow darkens day and night, Mass shootings plague our hearts and minds, A chilling truth that slowly binds.

In the land of stars and stripes, we stand, Yet blood spills freely on this land, Innocent lives cut short in pain, As we search for someone to blame.

But finger-pointing won’t suffice, For in this complex, tragic vice, It’s not just one that we should name, The problem’s larger, it’s not the same.

The NRA, a powerful force, With influence in a deadly course, But let’s remember, it’s not alone, In shaping policies that we bemoan.

The issue’s multifaceted, complex, A tangled web that we must address, Mental health, gun laws, and more, We must confront what lies at the core.

Inaction, though, is a heavy weight, A silence that seals our tragic fate, We must unite, not just in blame, But in finding solutions to end the game.

For in this land of liberty, We should strive for a society, Where lives are valued, not just for sale, And we work together to prevail.

So let’s not forget the lives we’ve lost, Innocent souls who paid the cost, Instead, let’s join in unity, To end this cycle of misery.

  7. Almost as if he’s not a very good leader and can only operate in a vacuum of people who do exactly what he says

  8. He is one of the most awkward, antisocial, and uncharismatic politicians I’ve ever seen. And yet somehow the Florida Democratic Party are even bigger losers because the best they could throw up against him was Charlie ‘Fake Tan’ Crist

  9. I must admit, early on this guy had me worried. He seemed like a less stupid and more capable version of Trump, but thankfully he’s somehow far less capable, and at least as stupid.

  10. Flustered because it’s not on his radar to give a shit. He left Florida to everyone else to deal with. His eye is exclusively on one job ( GOD )

  11. Ron DeSantis flustered his strategy of being a colossal asshole doesn’t convince people to like him

  12. Along these same lines, has Greg Abbott stopped all the rapes in Texas yet?

  13. DeSantis’s flaw is that he has a working brain and can perceive the dissonance between his policy stance and reality, hence the flustering. Trump would never be flustered.

  14. Loser gets flustered when he’s confronted about his shoes! 👢

  15. One of the scariest (authoritarian) ideas of his is this idea of involuntary institutionalization as a solution to gun control. Who decides who gets sent to a prison mental institution? Some bootlicker he appoints? Vetted by a panel of ‘experts’ he selects? Very scary possible situation for his perceived enemies (democratic politicians, judges, lgbt people, minorities, women, activists, protestors). It sounds like an idea straight from Putin. Dystopian hell.

  16. His corporate handlers have not told him what to think/say on the issue yet.

  17. >[DeSantis] responded: “Well, because you had COVID and all that stuff. Excess mortality, is that what you’re saying? That went up everywhere in the country from 2020 on.”

    >Welker then clarified and said, “The firearm mortality rate.”

Ahh, so NOW the little gash believes in COVID deaths.

  18. Sometimes they don’t have their lies readily available.

  19. I’m shocked that there are still press in Florida that ask him hard questions still.

  20. It must be awkward for Republicans each time a mass shooter (and your regular non-mass shooters) turn out to be fueled entirely by 24/7 violent messaging coming from the right. Sure, sometimes it’s just meth, but it’s usually politically motivated.

Guns are not good or bad. They are tools. They happen to be great tools of death. Deranged lunatics know that and get their hands on them effortlessly in almost every state, especially in red states like Florida. It’s insane that common sense gun laws, some having over 80% support from Americans, are still hotly contested in our legislative bodies. And Republicans are the only ones standing in the way of making our nation a much safer environment for all.

But sure, keep saying it’s never the right time to discuss gun legislation.

  21. To be fair, DeSantis gets flustered when confronted with reality of any sort.

  22. It’s hard to use your go-to excuse of “mental health” when 2/3 of the shooters are right wing nutjobs you created

  23. One of the most ridiculous GOP talking points is to point out that they got the guns legally. Yes, exactly, that’s the problem. They also love to point out that criminals will always find a way to get a gun. Right, but we don’t have to make it so fucking easy. In countries with much more strict gun laws some criminals do have guns they got on the black market, but they are very expensive, prohibitively expensive for the average criminal.

  24. Simple fix. Not enough Florida residents own a mossy shotty sawed off.
