Hi!

I just moved to Germany, rented an unfurnished apartment and slowly furnishing it. I need a closet and I loved the IKEA PAX ones but it shows at least 60% of the closet price as the assembly price via Taskrabbit which is too expensive for me.

I don’t have any friends and I don’t have any assembly items so I am a bit scared of assembling it myself. Are there any other stores that has assembly much much cheaper? Or do you think I have no choice. For example this €360 one requires €207 for assembly

  1. The cheap assembly closets are usually assembled by the people themselves, precisely because they are easy to assemble and people want to save money. Check Kleinanzeigen, maybe someone will do it for you/help you?

Otherwise, a simple tool box will cost you 50 euro max and it will carry you far. It is something that every houehold should have. The assembly instructions are pretty easy to read, most of the time. Maybe start with a Billy shelve, though.

  2. Ikea stuff usually comes with the required Allan keys included. All else you might need is a screwdriver

  3. Ikea furnitures come with all the tools required to assemble the pieces. Having someone to help maybe ask someone you know? I would have done it for free because I love putting up Ikea furnitures, im sure you will come across someone who enjoys it as well.

  4. Usually it is no problem to assembly IKEA furniture on your own.

BUT: for assembling PAX closets IKEA strongly recommends two persons. It is almost impossible to put it up alone – and it’s even more difficult to put it up with all the edges vertical and horizontal aligned. That explains the high cost of the assembly, taskrabbit will need to people, too.

So if you do not know somebody to help, well, yeah, it sucks, but I think you don’t really have a choice.
