I am from Corfu, and the Maltese community here is a well-known part of the multicultural makeup of our island. The community no longer speaks Maltese, but they have kept their Catholic religion and distinct surnames.

I am curious how well-known the community is in Malta?
Not surprised really. Doesn’t Grech mean “Greek people”?

Never heard of them myself, we tend to always hear about the Maltese in Tunisia and of course the later emigrants to Australia, Canada and the US but at least as far as I know, our people in Corfu are relatively unknown to us here.
