As a victim of having my car stolen a couple of years ago this doesn’t surprise me. Police showed up a week after I reported it and they closed the case a day later

My brother was on the phone to the police saying his brand new BMW was in the process of being stolen, he could see a masked gang of 6 breaking in on cctv… police advised him not to go outside and let the gang get on with their business. ( in London ) . Police wrote a nice letter later that week , gave a Crime reference number and closed the case .

  2. Well if that’s all they’re ever going to do – nothing – then you might as well just go out and help yourself to someone else’s car. Then that person will do the same, and that person, and that person, and so on.

  3. Similar with the theft on our road. Met closed it less than two hours after it was reported to them online. Victim called and asked WTF was going on, how can they close it without even checking in with the witnesses, case reopened, week later a plainclothes copper came round, asked and wrote down everything that was already reported to them online and didn’t contact a single potential witness named to them. Case closed a few days later, after none of the 4 council cctv were allegedly working.

    Get a good tracker, alarm, and immobiliser, if your vehicle has a certain value (to you), and hope for the best.

  4. I don’t want the met looking into muggings, burglary or violent crime while there are barbecuing cyclists on the loose.

  5. Mums purse (she’s 78) was picked from a bus in north London, only 5 people on the bus so she had a description. Reported to the police, few days later she got a call saying there was not enough evidence so would go no further. We called Arriva, gave the bus number and time, they said they could give the cctv from that day as well as Oyster card details of anyone on the bus at that time. They just need the police to ask. We passed this on, nothing happened.

    And have a look at how many vans are driving around with holes in them after people power drill their way in to unlock the doors.
