> “It’s impossible for me to imagine that people don’t understand that Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) is a negative influence,” Fincher added. “People who can’t understand that, I don’t know how to respond and I don’t know how to help them.”
I agree, it’s not his job as the artist to tell people how to interpret his art.
And I love China’s censored version where it basically cuts to black with a title card saying that their plan was stopped and nothing bad happened, movie over.
I think Fight Club is one of the best films ever made.
I also think incels and right-wingers are fucking stupid.
Edit: The right-winger that replied to me blocked me. ROFL. Typical. Can shit it out but can’t take it. Chef’s kiss. 🤌
It’s a lot like the Rick and Morty fans that unironically look up to Rick despite him being portrayed as capable but extremely flawed.
Looking at FC now you could make the argument that “Jack” has repressed trans/homosexual tendencies and acts out in a bizarre way about it, don’t know how the incels would like that
Get them to actually read the book and let them know it’s okay to get therapy or you know get angry at corporations that hoard debts and capital.
He’s right. He’s not.
Incels and the far right are fucking stupid and there’s no telling what they’ll latch onto next.
Patrick Bateman. Tyler Durden. Homelander.
The true psychos out there have no sense of irony.
Although, it’s been years since I read the book, it’s satire right?
Funny nobody is asking Chuck Palahniuk these questions. Oh wait, the book’s not Manga so incels never read it.
Its kinda camp that what Incels like are men who are explicitly not incels but also are explicitly mentally ill. Its serving ironic.
Tons of dudes idolize these fictional men for the worst reasons. My favorite example is Scarface. Dude kills his best friend, and sister, and gets brutally murdered at the end.
Haven’t seen the movie, but the book very explicitly has a capitalism bad (also toxic masculinity, but that’s part of cap bad) message and Tyler is explicitly the bad way of lashing out against that system
Bad news for his movie if they gotta reach this far back to promote him.
Wait, but isn’t Tyler Durden all about the downfall of everything the far-right holds dear; unchecked capitalism and entitlement?
I like fight club but I’m not surprised it’s misinterpreted. The film is way more entertaining before the reveal, and the “Tyler’s not a good guy, actually” feels half-hearted in comparison. Interestingly Fincher disagreed with Sorkin about whether Zuckerberg was a hero or not, and I think the same issue occurs in the social network
He’s right. It’s pretty clear you’re not supposed to idolize Durden.
