Many tell me that the US support of Ukraine is fading. Because Ukrainians aren’t grateful to the US. But we are grateful, our defenders are grateful, our people are grateful, our politicians are grateful.
It’s not Ukrainians being ungrateful. With all the hate toward Ukraine from the far right, we aren’t even allowed to say that we aren’t getting enough to fight 2nd biggest army and the largest country in the world.
Between mourning our friends and relatives and assembling the aid we send to our defenders, we find a moment to share publicly that aid isn’t enough. And when we do, we are threatened to cut the aid completely if we don’t shut up.
The real reason for the fading support is anti-Ukrainian rhetoric coming from the far-right elites.
It’s Tucker Carlson brainwashing Fox’s audience for a year, calling us nazis, spewing russian propaganda.
It’s Matt Gaetz doing everything to prevent Ukraine from getting aid.
It’s MGT running smearing campaigns against Ukraine.
It’s not Ukrainians being ungrateful. We are grateful. We thank the people of the U.S.A., and God Bless America🇺🇸.
Do not listen to those people. We love and support Ukraine. We will be with Ukraine to the end, to victory. We have our own political crap to deal with but that is rhetoric. It has nothing to do with our love and respect for Ukraine.
Ultimately, what happens in Ukraine – and Romania, and Armenia, and Artsakh, and Dagestan – ends up being a European project.
It depends on the EU, the U.N., UNESCO, NATO – and on , to a certain extent, the Commonwealth.
Depending on the U.S. is a great plan, but the far right wing in the U.S. Congress just took a giant step forward in terms of digging its claws in.
As an American, from what I can tell, it is *not* because you seem ungrateful.
It is because many of us have a fairly short attention span, and have gotten distracted by other concerns. (Not me, I continue to support Ukraine as best I can)
Also, because our President is a Democrat who supports Ukraine, many Republicans have decided that they should do the opposite.
Its only becuase dems/republicans refuse to agree on anything. Specially when elections are looming. Just a shit spot american politics are at right now.
I can guarantee that Ukraine wants independence from the former Soviet Union more than Comrade Gaetz. Comrade Gaetz is a CURRENT Soviet State unto himself.
The MAGA party seriously need to be voted out everywhere. There has been nothing more damaging to this country than them and Donald loser Trump.
Fading support is part of ruZzian disinformation, spread through maga and Qanon channels. Yes some support has faded, but it was never there from those groups. The vast majority support the efforts of a democratic nation to defend itself. Ukraine will prevail. Slava Ukraini!
The big mouths who control the far right agenda are louder, but they are not in a majority. American’s still support Ukraine’s efforts by a long shot, so don’t let those idiots control how you feel.
Matt Geatz is a shill for Israel. What a piece of shit.
Its like South Vietnamese president said at the end of the war:”USA has found a new mistress, S. Vietnam has become ugly and old”. (LEARSI)
If anything it’s because Americans are ungrateful for all the privileges they have
Ukraine’s official communications around the war have been of a level making western advertising agencies jealous.
I think it’s time for a new, perhaps specifically target, campaign to address the appreciation.
As an American, I don’t want gratitude from Ukraine. I want Ukraine to have sovereignty, a free democracy, a prosperous economy, and to be our ally. I want a win-win.
As an American I’d say maybe 20% of the people have any real clue beyond possibly knowing we’re sending a lot of money/weapons and there’s a war going on in Ukraine. Money is money and politics is politics and you can bet the last dollar the Republicans will try to make this out as some kind of money pit Biden got the US taxpayer into. Never mind the facts or morality of the situation.
Majority still support Ukraine. It’s the far left and MEGA Republicans who are iffy.
Who the fuck is telling you that.
It’s not you, Ukraine. U-S, is going through some stuff right now. Too many crooks, in the kitchen
Don’t listen to Matt Gaetz. He’s an idiot for who world history began in the 1980s (except Israel, which started when Jesus was born).
He is also accused of trafficking young women, maybe because a relationship with an adult would require you to be intimate with someone who, by his conception, is older than world history.
edit: we talk about it less, but the fact something is in fewer headlines should not be equated with a reduction in support.
Commentary about the current political battles in the US are fair interpretations of waning interest. My take, however, is that the Iraq and Afghanistan wars did tremendous damage to the patience of US citizens to trust that military events will end favorably. US citizens are incredibly jaded about foreign conflicts as a result. As soon as things start looking bad or difficult, Americans want to bail because of 20 years of absolute futility for nothing. Thanks G.W.
Connection with our faith like separation of church and state isn’t a thing
That is just a weak excuse for apathy I know Ukraine will forever be America’s ally
It’s purely domestic politics.
If something good, the support of Ukraine, happened while the Democrats are in power then it reflects well on the Democrats. The opposing party, Republicans, therefore have to paint it as something bad because they want to discredit their opponents. It should be said that support for Ukraine largely has both parties behind it but extremist idiots, like Matt Gaetz, see it as a chance for political capital. If Trump was elected again then Putin would be fucking delighted, his useful idiot back in power.
It’s the same in Europe. Slovakia has just gone Right Wing and Putin is delighted. The Right admire dictators. ‘Strongmen’ who take, steal, what they can.
Any sentient being with half a heart wants Russia out of Ukraine. There will always be shitweasels (again Matt Gaetz) who think only of self aggrandisement so let us hope they will always be in the minority.
It’s Russian disinformation! America loves Ukraine!
Its Russian propaganda that Ukranians are not grateful
I’m a Republican and I support providing as much aid as Ukraine needs to defend itself and push Russia out of its territory. What I worry about is Congress and the Biden administration not doing enough to ramp up production of the arms and ammunition needed to support both Ukraine and Israel (as well as to deter Chinese adventurism in Taiwan.) We need long term funding to incentivize investment in arms production ASAP.
Serious talk: the support for a conflict does not come from gratefulness, or length. Historically it has come from the belief that it is winnable. Support fade when a situation seems stuck, stalling or worth, eroding.
The front has been stalling for a while (and dont get me wrong, from perfectly valid reasons!), that’s what erodes popular support.
I don’t have a solution for it. I do hope that leaders understand the issue well and understand support is important on the long run. But a successful counteroffensive is direly needed in the opinion now.
Twitter posts don’t speak for America. We continue to support Ukraine more than anyone else in the world, why are you letting random social media post Phase you?
