The staff at these places often used to complain about being asked the same question over and over again: “Is this £1?”
But not everything was £1 even then, and it definitely isn’t now. They’re still clinging onto it best they can but £2 is the new £1, while £5 is the new £2. No surprise given the fact pound sterling continues to tank and the supply chain continues to be squeezed. Buying cheap tat from China’s expensive!
I miss the old Poundland. As a kid, I would judge my wealth on it (I have £15!! I can buy 15 things from Poundland!!)
