You can’t ask to lead a country you don’t seem to like that much.
Yea patriotism that old thing that you can go to the shops and buy your weekly shop with..
Quite odd tbh how most people online mock the size of the flag etc – yet in reality you should actually want to like the country you wanna govern, you should always associate yourself with the union flag – it ain’t something to mock and it’s not funny when they do mock it. Since when was being patriotic something to mock, I ask to those people?
I’ve still got my union flag face mask for a bit of context.
It’s definitely a strength that Milliband or especially Corbyn never had.
Most definitely a strength.
The real question is, is his lack of leadership a real problem? Or is the Labour approach of “no, you’re wrong!” really working?
Patriotism is like parenting.
Some parents want the best for their child, and want it to reach its potential in all that it does. When it succeeds they’re overjoyed, but when it falls short and fails they try to correct it, because they know it can do better.
Some parents already think their child is the best it can be. They turn a blind eye to its failings and its misbehaviour, and they imagine persecution whenever someone else ventures to suggest that perhaps little Timmy shouldn’t push over other children or torture small animals. Should their child’s wrongdoing become too obvious to ignore, they will proudly proclaim how much better their child is than certain other egregiously terrible children, failing to realise that a good parent would be mortified to have to make the comparison at all.
The former kind is a strength, because it tries to make improvements. The latter is a weakness, because it tries to pretend there are no problems to fix.
It’s a strength if you want to attract the numpty vote, if he doesn’t do it the Tories (the party who sold Britain to foreigners) will use it against him and to aquire their own numpty votes
hes got too many actual tangible weaknesses to start hand wringing about something as nebulous as “patriotism”
~~Patriotism is a weakness. Patriots will cry when they see a combination of their national flag, animal and/or anthem in an inspiring scene, and the temporary blindness this induces gives you a window to strike.~~
**EDIT:** My apologies, patriots. I should have pointed out these were acceptable manly tears of joy, and not other unacceptable forms of tears, which might stem from unsanctioned forms of emotion. I realize that as someone who cries during movies and video games which are not real, unlike countries are real tangible things and not just social constructs I should not be commenting on this issue, and shall retract this comment.
Haha! Fools! Now you’re smugly reflecting on my apparent retraction, I have a window to strike!
How can you lead a country you don’t like? This was a major issue with Corbyn, he came off that he disliked the UK as an entity.
The guardian wouldn’t be caught dead showing the slightest slither of patriotism. They’re far too intelligent for that. So for them it’s a weakness. But maybe they understand it’s necessary to pander to all those brainwashed, moronic simpletons who actually take pride in the country.
