  2. Considering that “most Russians” get a free ticket to jail/the frontlines if they say the wrong thing to the wrong person, I would take any poll asking the citizens with a truckload of salt.

  8. Nobody in their position would, the loss of life, equipment, political capital, etc., would all be for nothing.

    It will be next to impossible for Ukraine to completely remove Russia from its borders without a significant increase in aid from the west.

    The only thing that could possibly end this war sooner will be Putin being removed from power. Even then it’s unlikely for the next leader to just withdraw, but he could possibly make some concessions to Ukraine.

  9. There are no independent polls in Russia to know what people want. But there are a lot of Russians bloodthirsty, brainwashed and stupid to believe that Ukraine should not exist. Same as Palestinians about Israel existence.

  14. Not surprising. At this point in the war, sunk cost is setting in. It happened to the US in Vietnam and Iraq, and many other conflicts.

    With such a cost in lives already paid, people would rather expend a thousand, 10 thousand, and even more, than capitulate. Because capitulation would mean the thousands of lives already spent meant nothing.

    Early on in the war there were hopes that Russians would wake up and stop this bloodshed for the sake of their lives and their economy. That hasn’t happened, at least to the extent needed. It’s a pretty bad outcome, because if Putin is able to keep the population doubled down, and shift the blame to UA and US for the length of the war, RU still has the capacity to fight for years.
