Turkish Cypriot identity crisis

  1. An interesting video I randomly found on YouTube, I honestly did not expect to relate to it this much when I first saw the title, but it really is the case. I hope our GC friends can also understand us more through the experiences of these young Cypriots.

  2. The “azmhyr” account that replied to A.musa’scomment is tagezybolmana i have seen his comment under a few posts like this aswell once saying his Ancestors came from Romania and the other time claiming they were Crimean Tatars.the guy is a clear troll and wtf is wrong with his reddit acount anyways? İt seems to be broken.

  3. Yeni kusak tc ler kibris kimligini gc lerden cok benimsiyor, bunun tc lerin “turklugu” sevmemesi mi, yoksa gc lerin “yunanligi” sevmesi oldugunu anlamadim.

  5. Happens when you live in an isolated society, almost extricating any element of your existence, from the Cyprus most people see.

Kick out the Turkish troops, vote for a proper representative instead of an Ankara mouthpiece, and maybe then you can hope to make some progress on restoring your identity on the Island.

The Republic still stands, the one you are part of, if you choose to participate in.

  6. Haha…

Imagine all us Cypriots that are from other countries…

    I’m with british cyprus.

Turkish Cypriots have it easy compared to every other nationality.

I say embrace Europe and the common-wealth.

Honestly english must be an official language. It’s pure engrained meatheaded anti-British bullshit that stops it from happening.

  7. This reminded me to ask a question I’ve had: In the Turkish speaking world/ media isn’t Cypriot and Cyprus associated with Turkish Cypriot and “TRNC” ?

In the Greek speaking media “Greek Cypriot” is only used when there is a need to contrast Greek and Turkish Cypriots ( for example in Cyprus problem discussions). Another use of the term “Greek Cypriot” is for ethnic profile of criminals. In other cases the term “Cypriot” is used but it implies “Greek Cypriot”. On the other hand “Cypriot” instead of “Turkish Cypriot” is almost never used in Greek speaking media but it is used sometimes in international media from my observation.

GCs when asked about their nationality they say “Cypriot” or “I’m from Cyprus” and if the other party doesn’t know what Cyprus is they simply say that they are from Greece. Although the fact that they don’t Cyprus bothers them, saying that they are from Greece isn’t something that causes them weird feelings even though they distinguish themselves from mainland Greeks.

If the person asks “from what Cyprus?”/”North or South?” “Greek or Turkish Cyprus?” , Greek Cypriots get offended because that implies that Cyprus is not one countries and that part of the island belongs to Turkey or is Turkish.

Indeed some Greek Cypriot don’t view Turkish Cypriots as Cypriots. A big part of young Cypriots might even believe that TCs came after 1974. Some from older generations view them because of politics as Turkish puppets or a minority who tried to take as much power as possible.

Simdi 3-5 tane ithal solcu “offf yeaa turkler gitsin aaabbiii biz kibrisliyiz taaam miii” diyerek tum o zor bedellerle alinan haklardan vazgecilmasini istiyor.

Oldu baska bir arzunuz? En basta boyle bir devletcik kurmak hataydi belki de vilayet olarak baglamak gerekirdi.
