Few centuries before that Krassus, one of the first triumvirate members, was defeated and killed by Parthians.

He maybe wasn’t Emperor but close at he can be in the republic 🙂
The one kneeling should be the roman emperor Philippus Arabus (of arab descent). Valerianus is held by a arm by Shapur.
Fuck you Brutus. Even 300 years later the romans had to pay for that coward.
This Sassanid carving at Naqsh-e Rostam is actually next to tombs of Achaemenid kings preceding it by more than 500 years. The carving is bottom right on this image: https://ifpnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/20-New-Inscriptions-Found-in-Irans-Naqsh-e-Rostam-Necropolis.jpg.webp
Sassanids vs Romans destroying themselves for centuries
Arabs: it’s free real estate
That is a propaganda picture. Everyone knows Shapur was a demon king [as can be seen in this absolutely unbiased documentary](https://youtu.be/nUyPjwqNRQA?t=328) on the matter.
The Crisis of the Third Century was crazy for the Roman Empire. The first emperor to die in battle, the first emperor to die in captivity, the first time that the empire was divided in three, the first time a long established Roman province had to be abandoned, plagues and epidemics… all happened during this period. It’s amazing how the empire managed to survive for more centuries after nearing its collapse.
Wasn’t Valerian the one Persian king used as a stool? Literally.
