11. Hasan used to be just another voice, and for me, it was interesting to get his POV. But then I watched a video where he described training in confrontational arguments about politics. I can’t remember where the footage was, but it was an informal setting in what I think was a public square or something. It showed him kinda cutting his teeth, at playing the role of a good leftist – against someone doing the same on the right.

    Thats when I realised he wasn’t trying to dig deep for the truth. He was merely trying to become another “persona”. And I get it, you get lots of positive feedback for presenting forceful, articulate points. You don’t get much feedback for bringing hesitation and thought.

    The result is now Hasan is a sort of nice comfortable glove, that someone who is tired of facing a certain type of injustice, can just put on. When you wear the habit of self-righteousness indignation, life is simpler. Its human nature, but I’d wish we (on all sides of every spectrum) would collectively wake up from this theatre, and engage (and stay) in complexity a bit more.

    I think we’d be smarter for it.
