Big difference between that and pre paying a one man and giving him free use of company assets for private gain.
These seem more like operating costs to keep a broadcaster relevant.
As long as we dont see a hidden cost that just went into someones pocket or it comes out that nobody actually went to cannes or Amsterdam this is fair enough.
These seem like legitimate business trips for people working in a media company, there’s enough to be criticising RTE about without this sort of headline.
Entirely fair.
Sorry Indo, your outrage article fell on it’s face. I wonder how many clicks you promised the advertisers?

RTE defenders out in force for this one. They look like bots with the “fair enough” comments.
a media company in 21st century needs to fly 25 people to a “convention”. seems legit.
Grand so I definitely won’t pay the TV licence fee. Fuckin wankers.
They have to send journalists to other parts of the world sometimes. Those employees can’t be expected to pay for it themselves. Do the indo expect RTE to run on a budget of €0?
“Supported by your license fee”
Whats left of it at least
They probably also spent money sending people to Israel and the like but those aren’t swanky locations so didn’t get mentioned
Operating cost? Seems like a genuine expense assuming there’s content from it.
Oh no! Anyway…
Pay your TV licence people, keep the gravy train running.
I’m far from a defender of RTE, but although film festivals might seem like parties, the big ones like Cannes are also huge marketplaces for content deals to be made. RTE is in the business of buying and selling content.
I don’t have access to the article but if the Amsterdam event was the big expo in September, that’s another huge annual industry event for technical innovation.
20k would be a lot if it was for flip flops or a bus to go around the corner to Croke Park, but these trips seem legit to me, not staff on a jolly.
