  2. Ik wil ook mijn RSZ bijdragen met VDB bespreken. Maar zolang ik er niet binnenraak kan je me bezwaarlijk een sterke lobby noemen.

  3. Reading the article, it seems like a lot of rich assholes are pretty much threatening our government into leaving them alone ‘or else…’.

    WTF is the worst that could happen, the professional football in Belgium all but disappears? Which means that a) a decent amount of people lose their hobby and b) a bunch of normal people employed by clubs (probably for shit wages since they will often do this because of their brand loyalty) lose their jobs. Sure, pro football players also lose their job, but since they think paying taxes is for suckers, they can fuck off.

    Despite what some might think, if people stop spending money on football, they’ll find another hobby. So there is no actual loss to the economy. Those other places will earn more money, and hire more people, so there is no actual job loss.

    There is however a surplus for our nations budget. All the money wasted on football, can be spent on something useful, since the profiting other sectors won’t think that they somehow deserve free crowd management each weekend without even having to pay taxes. 100+ million a year can be spent in many, many better ways than wasting it on a thoroughly corrupt business sector.

  6. ELI5 why Belgian football need an RSZ exemption please.

    I’ve seen arguments that “we need to stay competitive in Europe” and “getting key players becomes close to impossible”. Belgian clubs haven’t been relevant in Europe for a long time, and don’t even want to help one another for the benefit of the league (Eurostadion and the entire EK 2020 mess).

    I cannot believe that for the current 20-30k a week wages you cannot build a decent, perhaps somewhat lower quality team with youngster and proven players that people would happily support.

  7. RSZ for independent has a max of 4287 EUR per quarter (for income above (89k/y). That’s around max 1070 EUR/mo in RSZ income above 89k/y is exempt from RSZ.

    ORL? Why should we take it more seriously? Better start earning it. Our professional football has a bad track record regarding corruption, matchfixing, tax evation, hooliganism, borderline human trafficking and bad management leading to bancruptcy or sell-outs to exotic foreign owners who use our clubs as satellites or money mules.

    And despite all the subsidizing, the vast majority of our teams still play in outdated patched up architectural monsters dating back from the 70’s or earlier and when they take one step across the border to take part in international tournaments we’re eliminated in the early stages.

    I know it sounds somewhat shortsighted, that not everything is bad and the issues with football are not solely a Belgian thing, but why should we keep on subsidizing that if the money finally ends up on the bank accounts of already rich (mostly foreign) players or club owners which half of them are living on another continent. I see very little value in that, and in my opinion the money can be used way better.

  9. Tja, onze RSZ bijdrage is best hoog hoor… Op een loon van 5000 euro per maand blijft maar 2583 over na RSZ en inkomsten belasting. Da’s 48.3% belast, je moet niet veel meer als 5000 euro per maand verdienen om boven de 50% te zitten.

    Als je miljoenen verdient is het wel heel veel dat je afdokt.

  11. I can’t think of any valid reason why a footballer would pay less taxes than any other employee. (Taxes in general are way too high, but that’s besides the point).
