Hello everyone, so I moved in 4 weeks ago to a new apartment. During the Übergabe, I noticed a circular (30 cm) darker area around the living room ceiling cables. It is actually in the picture protocol but i was told it was fresh paint from the small ceiling painting renovation. I ventilate the apartment for 20 mins while cooking and after showering.
After coming from 1 week vacation, the humid area (not fresh paint) is bigger and darker (70 cm) and 2 more spots. I didn’t realize about it coz I come late from work , the living is still empty and there is no lamp there yet . Can’t touch the ceiling coz is too high.
1. Do you guys think this is due to a lack of good ventilation? If so, could it be produced in only 4 weeks (3 actually, coz I was on vacation).
It’s weird to me that the living room ceiling is getting humid and not in the kitchen (although it is next to it) or bathroom. Also the humidity is not in the wall corners or around the windows like I normally see in pictures.
I plan to contact my landlord (also owner) asap, but I would appreciate some guidance on how to handle this if it’s my fault or if water leaks from the neighbor upstairs or if it’s a pipe break or even if the landlord blames me.
I believe the landlord will contact the right person to repair as it is urgent but who will pay? My neighbor Haftpflichtversicherung, if guilty?, Me (my haftpflicht insurance)? . Does the landlord building insurance come into play if it’s a pipe break?
Any suggestions or similar experiences will help a lot. Thanks in advance

  1. Call your landlord. This is water damage and must be adressed immediatly. There is probably a broken pipe or some water leaks in from rain.

My guess is that the water flows along the electric cable, as the exit is right in the middle of your electrical output.

    Edit:

For you it doesn’t matter who is insured, but the landlord has to fix the underlying issue.

No, almost definitely not. There seems to be a leak above this spot.
