Coming out and being yourself now is tough enough, but back then? Such a brave woman.
Why have I never previously heard of her? TIL.
EDIT: Why the fuck I got downvoted for this I will never know…
Fuckinghell, what a life. I can’t imagine spending every day fighting to just…exist. Massive massive credit to her, she really paved the way for transgender people back in the day.
I know we’ve come a long way in regard to trans rights but there’s still a massive battle, even this post has to have a little disclaimer because it’s *still* a heated topic.
Just let people live. Someone changing gender means nothing to me, I don’t care about sharing toilets or fitting rooms, I don’t care what letter is in someone’s passport, I don’t care if someone was born with one name but wants to go by another; all I care about is listening to those who ask me to make these small accommodations which will in turn make a *huge* impact on their wellbeing.
If someone asks you to refer to them as he/she/they, just fucking do it, it’ll make their day and cost you nothing. Rest in power to this incredible woman.

Rest in power.
Considering the UK media pundits (and celebrities who think their influence gives them expertise beyond their lane) will smear and demonise trans people even today, I can’t even imagine what she went through fighting for her humanity and basic fundamental rights back then.
Sadly, very little has changed since her time and that seems set to be the norm for a while longer.
