  1. Spotted a lad on a E Scooter this afternoon, must have been doing 50 at least.

    On the road mercifully.

  2. There will be occasional blitz at the start and then non enforcement. I have a escooter but going over 20km would feel risky.

  3. Who’s going to enforce it? No gardai to be seen anywhere

  4. They giving the gardai scooters to chase the lawbreakers down? Because I can’t seen them running after the scooter users on foot.

  5. One problem: If someone is going 20kmoh on a scooter unless in a noticeable uphill climb, they will become an active hindrance for cyclists. I have a scooter, and never noticed just how fast in kmph most cyclists go.

  6. Unpopular opinion: make the roads and cycle paths safe for them and they won’t use the footpaths.

The problem was never the new forms of transport, it’s that pedestrian and e scooters and bikes and everything else are left with scraps after we’ve given all our space to cars.

  7. I used to stick to the roads as often as possible, and my reward was 3 punctures in the space of a month thanks to the glass and shrapnel in the bike lanes, with a side of consistently coming within an inch of getting doored by the yummy mummies on the South Circular (and taxi drivers everywhere else) who park in them no fucks given.

If bike lanes were reliably safe and available for scooters – and indeed anyone else – they wouldn’t bother using paths at all, shur why would they? A fast lane all to yourself, why wouldn’t you take full advantage of it?

Have a look at that stretch of bikelane/road/path opposite the front of Glasnevin Cemetary…

  8. The speed limit should be 25km/h like most of the EU.

Also concerned with the wording of “must use” a cycle lane that is bizarre considering the government went out of their way to remove that wording for cyclists.
