  1. > Another factor at play is, as bne IntelliNews has reported, Tokayev appears to have opportunistically taken advantage to the crisis to remove the last hold on power of the former Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev. Tokayev took over Nazarbayev’s job as head of the National Security Council and has replaced key figures in the administration, including the head of the security services, with people loyal to himself.

    > “Nazarbayev’s name has disappeared from reporting in the last two days; [he] fled the country on January 5 and is now believed to be in Switzerland,” bne IntelliNews correspondent says. “Officially Tokayev now holds all the levers of power.”

u/Necrosint you may have been into something yesterday when telling it could be the president’s plan.

  2. Define fake news. It was also fake news that 2 doses of covid vaccination will give us our rights back and as a vaccinated person you can’t infect others. But this was promoted by government and experts everybody who had a different opinion was discriminated being a nazi and enemy of democracy. So is spreading those news and what does the audience expect/trust

  3. Btw, another point is that CSTO is actually a de-facto alliance now. Beforehad it didn’t serve much value other than “counter-terrorism” and is usually refered to a Russian umbrella that is just there so Russia could intervene during a regional war.

Now even smaller member states like Belarus, and even the democratic ones like Kyrgyzstan(which has a lot of opposition to such action but the president told them there is no room for debate). It is arguably the first major operation CSTO has ever done in its entire history.

If it is given enough momentum we could see CSTO becoming a “real” alliance with active military integration and cooperation..
