  1. At this point he’s still doing it just to be an asshole.

It says horrible things about the Republican Party that they have enabled this.

  2. Thank god.

As a kid who grew up in the height of the Iraq and Afghanistan operations, I never thought I’d see the day when the GOP openly tried to undermine military.

Then again before 2016 I never imagined US Senators would spend the 4th of July in Russia. Guess my imagination as a kid wasn’t as great as I thought

  3. Expulsion for Tuberville is the only answer. Authoritarianism does not stop “taking” until it is forced to stop.

  4. The Joint Chiefs of Staff no longer has vacancies:

    >…The Senate confirms Admiral Lisa Franchetti to be chief of Naval Operations and General David Allvin to be Air Force chief of staff. Joint Chiefs of Staff no longer has vacancies

Admiral Lisa Franchetti is the first woman to lead the US Navy, and first woman to be on the Joint Chiefs of Staff:

    >The Senate circumvented a hold by Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Thursday and confirmed Adm. Lisa Franchetti to lead the Navy, making her the first woman to be a Pentagon service chief and the first female member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

  5. Why does Tommy get to pick our army? I mean i know the answer is that he wants all of the US officers to be dishonorable pieces of shit like his party overwhelmingly chooses to be, but it’s still polite to ask

  6. My understanding is that normally promotions that require Senate confirmation is done via a voice vote and as long as no one objects, they’re approved.

Since Tuberville would object, they need to do promotions one at a time

What’s stopping the Senate from putting all of the promotions in a single bill and voting on that bill once to approve all of the promotions in that bill?

  7. Larger picture: No one Senator should have this much power when it comes to these things. This body has all kinds of dumb rules that always impede progress and it’s set up like they’re some kind of royalty over their state, like 100 little dictators trying to make ‘policy’.

  8. No more military funding bills until the promotions are passed.

Lindsay Graham will personally beat Tuberville into submission. Republicans won’t risk that sweet, sweet military contractor money.

  9. Is there a Wikipedia page or a comprehensive list somewhere about each of these positions that still need filled?

  10. What would stop the democrats from doing the same under a republican president?

  11. I called my republican senators today to let them know Tommy is hurting the military and as a constituent, I don’t like that. You should all do the same. Annoy the fuck out of them.

  12. If the Democratic Party had any lick of sense, they’d shove Tuberville grinding our military to a halt down the throats of the American public. Every campaign ad against any Republican should be Tuberville.

“With Hamas waging war against our allies, Tuberville stopped our military, putting American lives at risk. [GOP candidate] sides with Tuberville, [Dem candidate] sites with our military and our veterans.”

It’s the easiest layup in politics

  13. Lock the doors, and vote on them one by one. No one leaves until they’re done. “But that will take days! Or weeks!” Yep, sure fucking will. Blame Tommy.

  14. The fact he’s doing this while getting paid with our tax dollars is disgusting.

Chuck Schumer and the Democrats better find a way to punish this guy.

  15. Because antagonizing a bunch of certified fucking killers has zero potential to backfire.

  16. Why were they able to get this woman thru but can’t do it again for everyone else? Just fucking sit down and don’t stop until everyone is confirmed.

  17. Change rules ASAP and tell booberville to go diddle himself.

  18. This is what you get when you a celebrity with zero civics knowledge becomes a senator. Dude’s in way over his head so he came up with a gimmick to make it seem like he’s actually doing something.

  19. They need to get a PR campaign against the GOP and Tubs. Billboards, tv adds, even sky writing. How can one man hold up so much.

  20. Isn’t there some military base in Alabama they can threaten to shut down if he doesn’t comply? He wants to play with fire, put some fire under him.

  21. Arrest him on suspicion of terrorism and/or being a foreign fucking agent at this point.

    ***Enough is enough***.
