I came across this map of all the ethnic groups from Yugoslavia – one year before the occupation — in 1940 by an Austrian anthropologist, and it’s kind of weird.
The blue zone was inhabited by Slovenes, the red zones by Germans (and Austrians),
the yellow zones by Hungarians, and the striped zone by Slovenes who were in Hungary until 1918.
However, the pink zone was inhabited by..“Windische”? Who were they?
I thought about the Wends, but I’m not sure and I’ve never heard about a migration of the Wends to Slovene Lands.

German propaganda.
Windish was used to refer to all Slovenians, which essentially employed a ‘divide et impera’ strategy to differentiate regions within Slovenia.

The Austrians invented a new ethnic group and gave it a name, so they could say that people who spoke Slovenian and were living in Austria weren’t Slovenians, but Windisch people.

Wends was an old term used for all the Slavs bordering the Germanic tribes. The Sorbs were also called Wends.
It’s likely some imperialistic divide and conquer game at this point.
Kdor ne skače ni Windisch hej hej hej
Windische = štajerci in korošči
Interesting map. Those towns in red circles had a german speaking majority pre-WWI.
This map is nazi-fascist imperialistic shite 😏
We had Chernobyl before Chernobyl
