Scots urged not to travel to England for New Year parties

  1. Boo-hoo. Maybe you shouldn’t have introduced over the top restrictions then, and worked with the other govts to ensure a coherent covid plan. But that doesn’t suit the separatist ideaology

  2. This is nothing but making a nationalist point, is it? Don’t England and Scotland have almost identical case rates?

  3. My mate was up in Edinburgh before Christmas. Loads of Scots he was talking to had plans to go to Newcastle for NYE cos Sturgeon had banned Hogmanay. I was in Durham last night and met about half a dozen Scots who had already come down for the party.

There’s limited or no availability on every train between Edinburgh and Newcastle on 31/12.

This advice is being ignored by a lot of people.

  4. Deaths in Scotland have been sub 10 a day since the start of December – when there were no such restrictions. What science are they following?

I don’t like to think of conspiracies, but at the same time, everyone is being *very* selective with which figures they tell us in articles and press releases and which they quietly publish buried in data tables.

  5. Fuck that, come over and have a great time, more importantly spend lots of money and help all those businesses who have had an awful few years.

  6. I’ve supported all the lockdowns so far, and they have been effective. But I think England has the right idea on this one. The evidence is that large numbers of deaths are not going to happen with Omicron and we’d probably be better getting everyone natural immunity in a short space of time.

I might support a circuit breaker lockdown to reduce delta in the new year if delta is still a problem, but it looks like Omicron is replacing delta pretty efficiency so far.

  7. Sturgeon is well and truly messed up here. Scots are sick and tired of this crazy woman’s proclamations of doom. Pissing on football fans by closing stadiums while they’re open in a England. She needs to be run out of Scotland with her minions.

  8. They could close the border again if they really wanted to keep people in Scotland, I suppose.

If things turn out ok in England (and it looks like it will) then the devolved nations’ over-cautious approach and deliberately oppositional stance to UKgov’s approach will likely hurt them politically.

  9. It’s funny how at the start of the pandemic Sturgeon got slated for apparently always coping Boris and now she apparently always does the opposite of Boris. Both can’t be true

  10. So the Covid rates will spike, loved ones getting sick because someone else they crossed on the train had to go out to the club and everyone will get mad because in few weeks time the rates go up and lockdown is extended and clubs/pubs suffer for longer period

Sit in lockdown short term and enjoy night life when the rates are in hundreds. Or go out when it’s high and see longer restrictions that’ll piss you and the club owner off long term
