Putin claims Mongol invaders were better for Russia than ”Western conquerors”

  1. Finally, we have a confession whose heir and successor Russia has always been. For those who study history, it was always obvious that Russia was a replica of the Golden Horde.
“How Moscow Became Capital in 1327” is a short article with a Harvard Professor quotes on the topic and it is quite a revelation.

  2. That’s basically a definition of Russia – a part of Rus that considered that Mongol invaders were better.

  3. What a surprise! – No… they are living in this way a lot of time.

  4. Old man with no knowledge of history blabbering again to an audience that is forced to listen to him.

  5. That’s because Muscovians went on their knees and made an O shape with their mouth for the invaders

  6. Until Peter the great Russia was still more or less and eastern despotate…so I guess he’s looking to return to the good old days

  7. The Mongol Empire, under the leadership of Genghis Khan and his successors, was notorious for its military conquests and the establishment of a domain that stretched across Eurasia. Their rule, often characterized by ruthless efficiency and exploitation, had a profound impact on the societal structures of the regions they dominated, including Russia.

During the 13th century, the Mongol armies swept into the Kievan Rus’, a loose federation of East Slavic and Finnic peoples, dismantling its principalities and imposing the Mongol system of governance, which was heavily exploitative in nature. The Mongols, under what came to be known as the “Tatar Yoke,” instituted a tributary system that sought to extract as much wealth as possible from the subjugated Russian territories.

This extraction was not merely economic; it was a strategic exercise of power. By demanding substantial tributes, the Mongols effectively transferred wealth from the Russian population to the Mongol elites, ensuring the latter’s dominance. This practice created a handful of Russian elites who were co-opted by the Mongols to serve as intermediaries in this system of exploitation. These individuals, often princes of various Rus’ principalities, were granted a degree of power and autonomy in exchange for their loyalty and their efficient collection of tribute.

The Mongol approach to rule deeply influenced Russia’s societal structure. The emphasis on centralized authority and autocracy, which would later become hallmarks of Russian governance, can be partially attributed to Mongol influence. The tribute system ensured that the Russian peasantry was perpetually subjugated, with their output serving the needs of the elite rather than fostering local economic development. This served to widen the divide between the ruling class and the common people, a divide that would characterize Russian society for centuries to come.

So I don’t know if Mongols were “better” than Western conquerors, but they surely left a larger impact on Russian society than any Western power had.

  8. Wasn’t it a Nazi trope that Russians were “Asiatic” or “Mongol” hybrids or something?

  9. This “historical revisionist” body-double is my least favorite. I hope we’ll get more takes from “Joanne Rowling” one.

  10. Seeing that Russia appears **after** the Mongols stopped being a power, it makes sense.

But that is like saying that the Byzantine Empire was better for the Ottomans than the British Empire…

  11. That sounds like sour grapes. The West never got conquered by the Mongols, unlike Russia.

Central Europe has gotten over it by now and has dropped the nasty customs imposed by the invaders. Russia could give it a try, too.

  12. Yeah ok we know he’s now BFFs with Winnie the Poo.

  13. Ahm, which madmen tried to conquer Russia except for Adolf and Napoleon? Can’t remember a single name.

  14. Man this guy will say anything to beg for lord Asian support

  15. The Mongols gave Slavic women high cheek bones and those sexy ass eyes. Am I wrong?

  16. That’s pretty strong words from a Russian. Russians genuinely believe that were it not for the Golden Horde theirs would be the dominant culture in Europe and Russian would be the lingua franca.

  17. I mean, fuck Putin but I’m also a simp for Ghengis 🥵

  18. Of course the Mongol Vassal of Muscovy would believe that.

  19. That the 1940s germans for sure the mongols were rutheless and mass murderes but they didn’t hate the Russians more than they hated other groups (exect the ones that killed they envoys those they hate with boiling anger),while the germans wanted to eradicate them the rest are debatable.

  20. Who are these western “conquerors”? So far as I can tell, not one sq km of Russian territory has been touched by the west?

  21. No surprise there – Putin and the modern Russian state are ideological successors of the Golden Horde Mongols.

  22. He should really just give Russia back to Mongolia seeing as he keeps going on about old borders

  23. If Russia was a civilised country as is Mongolia, they would be a peaceful liberal democracy, not a barbarian imperialistic hegemony.
