According to a court filing on Friday, the former White House Chief of Staff’s publisher is looking to recoup their $350,000 advance, along with $600,000 in out-of-pocket damages, and at least $1 million each for loss of expected profits and just generally making them look bad after it was determined that Meadows made false election claims in his writing, including opening a chapter with, “I KNEW HE DIDN’T LOSE,” in reference to Trump’s 2020 campaign.
Their first mistake was taking a Trump supporter at their word. Lesson learned?

This is what happened to Dinesh D’Souza. His book 2000 Mules was recalled and delayed a couple months because he had to make changes to avoid lawsuits. These publishers know who they’re getting into bed with though.

The funniest part about this, to me, is that they’ve announced they’re going to keep selling copies of this book, which they now allege is full of lies, while they sue Meadows for lying to them.
But the likely reality is that they knew he was lying when they agreed to publish in the first place. They had their coconspirator sign a boilerplate agreement, and now they’re trying to get paid on both sides of the table: both for selling the lies, and by stiffing the accomplice they hired.
Wait until banks will start suing Trump for false representations after the current trial. Hundreds of millions!

I hope the lesson is that we shouldn’t automatically give book deals to people for doing basically nothing.
There’s a really toxic behavior that any public figure seems to think that they deserve “a book deal” because they were involved in something popular, and it needs to stop.
If only these big publishers had an ounce of integrity rather than walking around with dollar signs in their eyes…
