More accurately austerity over a tremendous income tax burden and living in an over-priced, over-taxed, over-mortgaged run down dump with a growing 5th column in our societies.
That is the plan, they don’t want things to get better but worse. And who are they? Those who benefit of pointing out problems and blaming immigrants, globalists etc for those problems while having absolutely no plans how to fix those problems.
It’s not just austerity
German green party ministers are making speeches that I would’ve expected to hear from AfD politicians a few years back. Warning Muslims to stop being anti semetic or they gone. It’s the painting all with the same brush I find very problematic. Then going after their own base in Fridays for Future. Like seriously, the youth worried about our planet are anti semetic too for calling for peace?
It’s really so feebly single minded they don’t realize they’re getting applause from the CDU. The rhetoric towards migrants in many countries has turned nasty. I see a CDU AfD coalition on the horizon and suddenly all the shocked Pikachus will wonder how they got in. You opened the door for them you numbskulls.
Tankies are in full force
On an unrelated note, can anyone explain why pro-Palestine rallies have Taliban flags?
WHAT YEAR IS IT?
It’s not the not the only thing I reckon…
Isn’t it very possible, that this is a case of correlation ≠ causation?
Weird that living within your means is now portrayed as extreme.
Low growth
Ever increasing taxes
Ever increasing prices
Services barely any better than 20 years ago or significantly worse
Expensive energy crippling businesses and households
European policies have been a failure.
Is not austerity.
Is the influx of uncontrollable population that asks for acceptance and rejecting integration that pushes people on the limit.
We are on the limit of vigilantism, and Europe is pretty much done with everything.
Religions aren’t helping… All of them
Funny how none of the comments are about austerity. Seems like everyone wants to talk about their favorite boogeyman, the immigrants.
Austerity never helps, tax the top 1% instead, that’s where all the money is 🤌
Yes, it is true. People often forget that the welfare state was build in order to limit extremism or political parties that were thought to be extremist. The first batch of such measures were taken to limit the appeal of XIX-century socialists while the modern welfare state was put into place after WW2 in order to build a safety net for the people so that they will not turn to nazism like in the 30s or communism as it was feared during the Cold War.
After the welfare state was downsized and the huge crash in 2008 new extremist parties emerged. Redditors comment a lot about migrants on this post and they are mostly right, as the huge influx of people who seem unable or unwiling to adapt to European values do empower right-wing extremists. On the other hand, even without migrant, the average person would be very unhappy with the fact that his safety nets are being undermined and the extremists would use this discontent for their own electoral gain.
Not funding destabilisation, displacement, illegal wars and GENOCIDE will help reduce numbers of refugees.
The problem is neoliberalism and extreme corporatism.
Scumbag billionaires and multimillionaires getting buddies into power, then getting them to cut services, cut investment into public infrastructure, and raise taxes on lower and middle to give themselves tax breaks. Wage stagnation as ceo pay rapidly increases. Massive greeflation. Mass importation of unskilled labour to keep wages suppressed and profits high.
This is class warfare, and we’re all fucking losing, no wonder people are furious. However, they’re mostly too stupid to see the real enemy is neo libs and fiscal Conservatives, and the super rich.
I am very disappointed by the ever increasing crappy takes I am seeing on this sub. You guys are falling for the same strawmen since forever.
Austerity (done by cutting back on social programs, public services and infrastructure projects/maintenance), mass imigration of cheap labor(which is causing racism and xenophobia because of cultural and educational background differences), high rents and expensive real estate(companies and millionaires buying from people affected by economic crises for especulation and steady income), worse purchasing power/high inflation(part of it because of outside events such as Ukraine-Russia war, part because salaries are not rising to match inflation while evermore consolidated companies control larger shares of their markets and can raise prices for lack of competition, symphoning profits to shareholders instead of workers).
All of your problems come from the fact that your governments are slowly being corroded by the interests of the wealthy, be it domestic ones from your own multinacional corporations or internacional ones from foreign multinationals and oligarchs who control a sizeable portion of your energy needs, manipulate public opinion from the internet or directly from the midia backed by them. They even control your sports teams for gods sake. Those interests are causing the problems mentioned above.
But in your infinite wisdom, the fault is solely on the immigrants for your economic and social hoes. Convincing you to vote for the same people who are in cahoots with the wealthy and oligarchs.
I wish you all best of luck, because it is in Europe is where the strongest democratic institutions reside and it would be very sad to see it slowly fall apart again.
It’s not “austerity” that is driving people to extremism.
IMHO, it’s a mix of political incompetence and corruption.
It’s CEOs making millions for doing nothing when people who ARE employed can’t afford their own home.
It’s worker’s rights getting taken away everyday.
And, yes. It is the masses of migrants arriving everywhere who don’t even try to integrate or live acording to our Laws.
It’s politicians spending millions on “gender studies” when hospitals can’t hire enough staff.
Etc.
Europe in the mid 2000s: fuck the internet and technology, old-school engineering is king, woo hoo. Oh and we have to integrate Russia more into Europe, that will solve all security problems.
Europe in 2023: Oh shit, I think we’re fucked.
What’s the option? Counties have to balance their budgets… taking on too much debt is inflationary. Europe is already in a high tax situation. Increasing taxes can be counterproductive to growth at this point…
I’m not trying to troll… not sure what Europeans can do with a shrinking population and low economic growth…
