“All aspects are very important: the lucidity we have had in the last games we will have to keep in mind also tomorrow in Bergamo, we face a team that has both technical and physical qualities.”
Against Roma, apart from Sommer’s nice save, Inter have never suffered defensively. Against Atalanta, how does the defensive approach change?
“Certainly we will always have to be very focused, in the last few games we have done well on a defensive level. Tomorrow the boys will be urged and we will have to be good at suffering all together at some moments of the game, because we know well the opponent we will meet.”
Inter is the team with the highest percentage of duels won in Europe, 56%, while Atalanta is at 50%. Does that mean we have to expect a very physical race?
“Absolutely yes, data is important. You meet two teams that have physicality and lots of weapons, tomorrow will be a great game on a field that is anything but simple.”
Atalanta is the only team in the five major European leagues in progress that has never lost or conceded goals at home. Is that an additional obstacle for you?
“The game itself offers a lot of obstacles, we clearly know this fact. Atalanta have taken very few goals and not even one at home, they are putting a lot of attention in the defensive phase, but it has always been a team that does not concede so much. We’re going to have to be good at this.”
We have repeatedly praised the value of the group, but talking about a few singles how much did Thuram’s quick learning of all the game situations amaze you?
“Marcus was good, it’s been since July 13 that all the boys are working very well, in front there is always the ‘we’, not the ‘me’: they are all working very well together, in a group. Marcus has inserted himself in the best way thanks to the help of everyone and in my opinion he still has room for improvement. He has to keep growing as he is doing every day when he comes here to work out.”
