I bet if rte sold Montrose and relocated outside the M50 they’d get a large amount of long term staff opting for voluntary redundancy.
TG4 operates on a much smaller budget. I’d prefer RTE to downsize and focus on news and sport and give more air time to low budget stuff that people are passionate about (think Hardy Bucks for comedy, think the Townsends youtube channel for history etc.). A lot of RTE’s cost is needless and there’s easy sacrifices that can be made.
I’ve License payments are down by over a third of those that were paying.
Staff are entitled to a pay rise, it’s gotta come from somewhere.

Well I say it’s goodbye then RTE, you already paid everyone above the odds and are now expecting us to pick up the tab. It’s like the banks all over again, they think we’re dense.

Mate I haven’t had a pay rise in a while. Will RTE fund it?
We actually got two knocks on the door from a license inspector in the last week. Told him where to go each time, they must be getting desperate.
Easy solution, cut 9 mil of the shit that isn’t needed first. Plenty of unnecessary execs, etc. And don’t need all these percs management has because you’re not actually keeping higher up staff with them, half their families have been given jobs there because of them so not in their interest to leave anyway.
Pay increases? Are they fucking serious? After all the shit over the past few years (not to mention the incredibly poor service and high wages for quasi “celebrities”) they expect the public to fork out more and it not even go towards better quality projects? What a sham. Focus on news, sports, history, cut it down to one single channel, and build back towards some type of favourable reputation before another euro is added to anyone’s pockets. RTE should be in crisis mode and taking action, can’t see anything of any major substance being done. In short, go ta fuck.
