Charities could be fined for handing out tents if they are deemed to have caused a nuisance, under plans being pitched to be included in the King’s Speech:^1
>The potential legislation would look to prevent the obstruction of shop doorways by rough sleepers who are using tents, the FT said.
>[Home Secretary] Braverman, who is currently on a visit to the Greek island of Samos, tweeted on Saturday: “The British people are compassionate. We will always support those who are genuinely homeless.
>“But we cannot allow our streets to be taken over by rows of tents occupied by people, many of them from abroad, living on the streets as a lifestyle choice.
>“Unless we step in now to stop this, British cities will go the way of places in the US like San Francisco and Los Angeles, where weak policies have led to an explosion of crime, drug taking, and squalor.”

They could fix the housing crisis by mass deportation tho.
*As a lifestyle choice?*
I’m sure the people living in tents would much rather have a nice cosy bed rather than a cold tent and the risk of being pissed on by some joker.
The housing system is this country is well and truly broken.
Is he describing digital nomads?
Have you tried building a fuckton of houses, leasing some to the homeless and imigrants, helping them find a job, then asking for rent/purchase, while also having plenty more houses, helping with the local housing crisis?
I’m not British, but I read the headline and said to myself, “A person exhibiting flailing inhumanity… There’s a 100% chance this minister is a Tory…” Am I… on the mark? In desperate need of a deeper understanding of British politics?
Homeless are guilty of being homeless, they chose to be homeless.
Poor are guilty of being poor, they chose to be poor.
You see, none of this is systemic issue, it is a lifestyle choice. We need to condemn their lifestyle, they are just LAZY. Work more for smaller pay, that is the sign that you are not a bad person. Bootstraps, personal responsibility, individualism, helping poor is sin because it makes them lazy.
Aka, the neo-con culture war when we look at it from the top. They want the culture to change so that the society starts to think that those who have a lot should have more and those who don’t have should have less. It is only moral choice in their world. Altruism is weakness, greed is good etc.
Why wouldn’t you routinely deport non-nationals who can no longer support themselves?
St Mungos says 57% of London rough sleepers are non-nationals. This chimes with government figures from 2015 which stated that 56.7% were non-nationals with Romanians alone making up 18% although by 2023 this had now reduced to 11%.
There used to be just over 1500 rough sleepers in London in 2010, now there are over 10K.
The Mayor has said that since taking over they have helped nearly 16K off the streets. While the government claims to have spent 2bn on tackling rough sleeping.
Billions spent, thousands supported and yet the problem gets worse. It is seems hard enough providing for nationals. Surely, it is better to not add to the problem by dealing with the additional burden of non-nationals.
Edit: This isn’t one way either. British rough sleepers abroad should also be deported. I say that as a British immigrant in Asia living on a visa. We have responsibilities to our host countries.
Are they supposed to like live in the sewers?
Typical conservatives, if i dont see a problem, it doesnt exists, and it doesnt make me uncomfortable with my faith in holy bible
Why not go one step further and ban homelessness? That should fix the problem.
Hmm, yes, let’s house them in hotels instead. /s

Yes, weak policies on mental health and social care, take a hint?
Let people live their live like they want ffs. It’s a free country.
“Lifestyle choice”
Yeah, right. Time to unplug your head from your arse.
Ah, the carefully crafted inclusion of “foreign people” as to divert the problem away from the government, and again to blame a chosen minority.
This allows them to divert the problem from our people = our problem to undesirable = not our fault.
