  1. Why not just own it and say fuck you?

If you’re doing it then who cares what they think

    You do you cricket

  2. I’m starting to believe that the right wing politicians are all being selected based on backgrounds that can be blackmailed.

  3. Please, tell me more about how woke people are the ones with the mind virus

  4. So…. a log cabin republican couldn’t take the heat from his own party?

  5. Small town life is a lot different than city life. The intolerance is off the charts.

  6. These poor deluded, repressed assholes. Wake up dickbags. Be yourself.

  7. I am so fucking sick of being told I have to co-exist with conservative vermin.

  8. How can any Republican be shocked at this outcome? This is the world you want to create. This is what the officials you elected hoped for. They want LGBTQIA+ people either dead or forced into psychologically damaging situations so that they want to kill themselves. You asked for this. You got it. And then you feign fucking sympathy and surprise when it happens to one of your own? You’re either complete fucking morons or pathetic liars. Either way, you’re complicit.

  9. It’s really sad that conservatives have very little respect for people’s privacy and for how they express themselves.

  10. Can’t read the article but I’m guessing he’s a Republican. I don’t understand why these people don’t change political teams, republicans hate him for what he is while democrats would celebrate him.

  11. The church is more worried about his cross-dressing allegations than they are that he committed suicide because it’s “unbiblical behavior”.

Which isnt an actual sin. There is nothing in the Bible that talks about cross-dressing. That’s how you know Chrstianity is just a front for the republican political agenda.

  12. Someone should really explain to the right that this is what can happen when you out someone against their will in an environment where they don’t feel safe, but they won’t see it.

  13. This is what religion does.

Being a religious conservative, he knew life as he had known it was over. Everyone in his life would now shun him…church congregation, friends, extended family, etc…The amount of shame that religious conservatives wield against anyone who is different than them was probably too overwhelming to bear.

It’s no different than scientology and their “suppressive person” strategy…just a common cult tactic used to keep people in line.

All this pain over wearing clothes (at home) the group didn’t approve of. Religion is a cancer.

  14. Oh, please. We should have a Crossdressing Day just for fun and totally wipe out any taboo about it. Who cares what someone else wears for their own fun. WTF people.

  15. It was more than that, he was also posting pics of local kids online and wrote about killing a local woman he was stalking

‘To say I was a stalker would be a bit of an understatement’: ‘Curvy transgender’ Smiths Station Mayor Copeland wrote fiction about murdering real-life local businesswoman, assuming her identity

  16. Makes you wonder why he was a Republican to begin with. How did he not know his own would turn on him when they found out?

  17. >In one short story, Copeland, who owns a local grocery store, wrote about watching women in-store security cameras and saving the videos for this “private collection.”

    >In another long-form fictional story posted under Copeland’s pseudonym, Brittini Blaire, the narrator becomes obsessed with a real-life local business owner, who he ultimately murders to assume her identity. For the sake of the woman’s privacy, 1819 News has provided a copy of the fictional story with names and other identifying information redacted.

    The link provides receipts.

Sounds like this creep was a danger to women and it had nothing to do with what clothes he wore.

  18. >Copeland, a Republican

Conservatives are they way they are because they repress and hide their real selves.

  19. This is sad and I’d like to work toward creating a world where being known for cross-dressing wouldn’t have any negative impact on a person’s life.

  20. ‘Dies by suicide’ is the correct and respectable way to describe his death.

  21. This is deeply sad. That he couldn’t enjoy that openly without shame, and that someone would use that as a political weapon.

  22. This is why gay rights are important. Because there are people out there who would literally … LITERALLY … rather be caught dead than be caught wearing drag. If his community had been more tolerant–and if he hadn’t been so on-the-record as being intolerant–perhaps he wouldn’t have felt it was the end of the world.

  23. Jesus dude, it’s cross dressing not eating people. Just come out an say yeah this is a thing I do go fuck yourselves I enjoy the shit out of it and go on with your life.

I grew up in a small town on the Florida/Alabama border and this is everything that’s wrong with small town life, you’d better not be different from everyone else in any way or we’ll make your life hell.

  24. A few years ago I ran into a friend from high school at a reunion. She was trans, if you knew her back in high school it you knew it, but she’d gone to college at Auburn and stayed in the south and been studiously “he” for like 15 years.

After a few drinks, she tells me how awful her life is because while *he’s* been successful in his career, *she* knew 100% she could lose everything if people found out. She actually used those pronouns to refer to her public self versus her real self, it was sort of heartbreaking.

I remember thinking then what I’m thinking now: Fuck those assholes who are making you miserable. Pack up your shit and move someplace that doesn’t suck, this is a 100% solvable problem particularly if you have the means to rent a U-Haul.

  25. Well, maybe if as a pastor he had stood up against all the bullshit Christian hate in the first place he wouldn’t have felt the need to do this.

  26. She was a very active member in the trans forums. She was closeted, not a crossdresser.

  27. If you were ever wondering why the patriarchy is also bad for men, here ya go.

  28. Shame. I’d he’d have been able to live his true self he’d be alive.

  29. He should have been a left-winger. As it turns out, we don’t give a shit whether you cross-dress. Live your life, man.

  30. *”Whenever I hear some bigmouth in Washington or the Christian heartland banging on about the evils of sodomy or whatever, I mentally enter his name in my notebook and contentedly set my watch. Sooner rather than later, he will be discovered down on his weary and well-worn old knees in some dreary motel or latrine, with an expired Visa card, having tried to pay well over the odds to be peed upon by some Apache transvestite.”*

  31. I’m happy they called the outlet a blog as opposed to legit media. But still feel they could have gone a step further to call it what it is, a christofacist rag run by this brain dead bigot, [Jeff Poor](https://x.com/jeff_poor?s=21&t=5ys7HdhV9V-9D5JVLJMU8g) who calls himself the editor and chief. Still has one of the tweets up by the way. He’s proud of his part.

  32. OMG that article. What a fucked up double life this guy had. Checked off on all the usual traits through, Trump guy, pastor, politician, busted through his social media accounts. That the wife was in on the kink was a nice twist.

I’d say Mickey Rooney as the lead for the movie, but I think he’s dead. So I’m gonna go with Kevin James.

  33. brietbart bloggers using commercial facial recognition software to screw up the lives of non conformists is our fascist future.

  34. this is really sad. separately, the term “cross dressing” needs to go. Clothes don’t have a gender…they are clothes.

  35. If this doesn’t encapsulate everything wrong with the Republican party, I don’t know what does. It combines repression of self identity, bigotry, capacity for self destruction with the ever present truth that the Republican party has no path for building a future.

Sad that this guy is another casuality, and couldn’t find his way out of the hellhole that is modern Republicanism.

  36. And of course he’s in the pretty far right Wing so instead of this being just like oh well whatever, he sees that his only path here is suicide? Yeah, right wing society is kind of bullshit

  37. As someone so very well put it on a post on IG I saw: He wasn’t out, kept it to himself, wasn’t “rubbing it in anyone’s faces,” and was still harassed to the point of suicide. Don’t ever let conservatives tell you if queer people just kept it to themselves, they wouldn’t have a problem with it. And don’t allow them to convince you Pride celebrations are unnecessary. We will always have to affirm our right to exist and be free of violence and harassment.
