What does this number mean on one of the bridges over Regent’s Canal from Little Venice toward Camden?

  1. It means it’s the second bridge along the route of the canal, obviously starting from the London end.

  2. Bridge number 2. The canal companies numbered their physical assets, bridges, locks etc. so if you keep walking you’ll find the next one will be 1 or 3 depending which way you’re heading. They also acted as handy navigation points.

    The railways do something similar.

  5. A little known fact is that 2 is actually the magic number.

  6. Ok so, tells you what’s allowed, 2 means you can shit only under the bridge, however 1 means piss only. 21 means prefer shit but piss is allowed. 12 means piss preferred but shit allowed. Very useful information.
