We Don’t Need an Ethics Code to Know That Justice Thomas Must Resign

  1. >Justice Clarence Thomas failed to disclose much of the largesse that billionaires endowed upon him. He received at least 38 destination vacations, 26 private jet flights, eight helicopter flights, received multiple VIP sport event passes, luxury resort stays and an apparent standing invitation to Wayne Huizenga’s exclusive private golf club.

    >The Ethics in Government Act of 1978 requires that such expensive travel and gifts be reported annually. The EIGA was enacted, in part, to “preserve and promote the integrity of public officials and institutions.” But over a 20-year period, Justice Thomas failed to disclose gifts provided him. Should he have? The EIGA requires that Supreme Court justices report the receipt of gifts and reimbursements. But justices need not disclose food, lodging, or entertainment “received as personal hospitality of an individual.”

    >Fundamentally, Justice Thomas failed to ask himself the most basic question: Would these men have befriended him had he not been a justice on the court?

    >Even if none of them had business with the Court, even if there is no evidence that they asked Justice Thomas to rule a certain way in a particular case, did he believe that any of these men would have paid for luxury vacations and international travel for Justice Thomas and his wife, had he simply been a government bureaucrat? And what about his motivations for befriending them?

  2. I’m surprised Clarence isn’t using the same “high tech lynching” defense he used when his sexual harassment of Anita Hill came to light during the confirmation hearings. “Long Dong Silver” became famous almost overnight.

  3. Your own . . . Personal. . . Justice. Someone to hear your prayers, someone who cares.

  4. Someone on the Supreme Court should be beyond reproach. That sure doesn’t describe him.

  5. We don’t need another zero,

We want Thomas to just go, go,

All we want is life beyond

    Harlan Crow.

  6. Alito as well. Just as guilty. Also there need to be charges and consequences for Ginni and Clearance for this.

  7. But he won’t, so it’s up to citizens to apply the appropriate pressure to him in his personal life to get the message across.

He should not be able to leave the court without fearing for his life ever again. He should never have a moment of peace ever again. Anytime he is anywhere other than in the court, he should be followed, shunned, ostracized, and harassed – and it needs to be clear WHY. Not just random acts of harassment, but including the words “RESIGN NOW OR ELSE” so he gets the fucking message. There should be NO PEACE FOR HIM ANYWHERE IN THIS COUNTRY.

But that won’t happen, because America is a pussified nation of spineless cowards who can’t even assert their right to exist. The only people doing anything are stupid kids who are easily misled into targeting the wrong people (see EXTINCTION REBELLION as the perfect example of this).

  8. Did this provision exempt Justice Thomas from reporting the hospitality he received? According to Justice Thomas: “Early in my tenure at the Court, I sought guidance from my colleagues and others in the judiciary, and was advised that this sort of personal hospitality from close personal friends, who did not have business before the Court, was not reportable

  9. Fuck ethics codes, we need laws. This dude isn’t going to ever stepdown, and anyone who thinks that he will out of shame, is a damn fool.

  10. His owner won’t let him resign. He isn’t answerable to the american people. He takes his orders from Harlan Crow.

  11. Focus on getting democrats large majorities in the house and senate. It’s the only way we can fix a lot of shit, including the Supreme Court.

  12. We Don’t Need an Ethics Code to Know That Justice Thomas Must Resign

We Don’t Need a Crystal Ball to Know That Justice Thomas Won’t.

  13. Catch-22: If Thomas could follow a code of ethics he wouldnt be in this situation

  14. He never should have been allowed on the Supreme Court in the first place

  15. He broke the law as it stands. We need there to be repercussions for that.

  16. just like I don’t need religion to tell me about rape and murder

I rape and murder as much as I want, which is zero

  17. His vote is clearly for sale. He should be a street corner justice. 🙂

  18. Will Harlan still wanna hang if Clarence isn’t a Justice?

  19. He should have never been on the bench in the first place.

  20. It is amazing the poster boy of the Republicans, a person who is not your typical Republican, meaning, a black man, well, educated and well respected. He sells his self out for money, prizes, friends gifts. There is so much evidence of his wrongdoing if he was at his early stage of his career when he was very idealistic, he would’ve known that a person like that could not be a Supreme Court Justice. But after sucking on the tit of the Republican donors, for so long, he will not go down without a fight. Republicans cannot admit when they are wrong. He will never admit to doing doing.

  21. At this point, only the Grim Reaper can compel him to leave office because Congress will never impeach/convict him.

  22. He is dirty through and through. The fact that he evaded investigations, insists it is no one’s business and that he has done nothing wrong, speaks to a moral vacuum.

  23. The most ironic thing is that this pos— would have been the retired lovable elementary school janitor after 30 years …. had it not been for the liberal ideas fought for on his behalf….

  24. > But who will replace him? Senate Republicans will not permit the appointment of anything short of another conservative. A solution would be for the Republicans in the Senate to provide a list of 10 or 15 acceptable district and circuit court justices for President Biden to pick from. This would maintain the ideological balance in the court while at the same time upholding its moral authority.

I was in agreement with this opinion article until the the last part. There is no ideological balance in the court right now. Why should Biden only choose from a hand selected list provided by Republicans?

  25. We may not need one to
Realize he’s corrupt. We do need an ethics code period!!!!

  26. November 2023, the eleventy-thousandth article stating Thomas should resign.
Maybe buy him an RV, folks. He might listen then.
