Choyaa, who wrote this piece, is a very reasonable and thoughtful Unionist commentator. I’m more on the Nationalist side of the fence myself, but I think they raise convincing and reasonable points. While it’s easy to mock, it’s much harder to be constructive. We all end up paying the price in the end if most of the online spaces for discussion are toxic.
We have seen plenty of evidence of lengthy organised unionist/loyalist trolling campaigns conducted across all social media platforms including a significant series of incidents that affected this subreddit just a couple of years ago, loyalist trolls have been elevated to positions of regional prominence and are routinely featured on the most popular broadcasting networks in the North, one of those trolls who was a regular shit-stirrer within this subreddit until accidentally outing himself, we’ve seen countless incidents of hateful online posting from unionist officials; “I hate poor Catholic bastards” – Jolene Bunting, “Hope the taigs all dop dead” – Marc Collins, “Trick or Treat” – Tyler Hoey, and more recently a DUP councillor memeing about Newry residents drowning then claiming to be hacked after realising they weren’t logged into their alt account, yet remember the resources that were spent in tracking down and outing the Pastor for his own comparatively minor trolling efforts

The unionist-loyalist tradition which has undertaken years of this behaviour through the media, from the pulpit, and on the floor of the political chambers clearly don’t like a taste of their own medicine.
Obviously, some people take it too far on both sides, particularly with direct interactions on social media, but the hyperbole excreted by many unionists in the public eye is no different.

What gets mistakenly directed at Unionists, unfairly I might add, is the blatant and down right sickening ‘racism & all the phobics’ that loyalism often cosies right up next to which I think we can all agree needs to be called out on more often.

Well Unionists in general have made themselves targets for ridicule.
A group of people from which came a sectarian, right wing bigoted apartheid system alongside loyal orders that dont hide bigotry and supremacist opinions.
A group where we see sentiments that steps towards equality and representative justice and governance was “giving too much” and whose political representatives have had to be dragged kicking and screaming to give equal rights to minorities and Women (in fact most had to be done over their head).
This deserves ridicule, this card being played as the “victim” has been run out by Unionists for years and its nonsense.
It’s like asking me to feel sorry for South African whites, especially those that were part of the regime or those that still hold repugnant views ……. not going to happen.
Unionists and the PUL community need to do some reflection on why they are ridiculed in general and dismissed by many as right wing bigots. Its not just an opinion held by Nationalists and Republicans in the North but by many in the UK and a far.
No shock all the witch hunting accounts I have had to block on here tonight are all over this thread trying justify this or redirect anger towards unionists being at fault.
Has journalism just descended into a twitter to and fro?
What percentage of the population actually use twitter? But every fecking news article is twitter this and a tweet said that….. all just seems like lazy journalism IMHO.
