These are just some highlights, but this is actually a pretty well rounded article that criticizes everyone.
>Hamas’s October 7 killing spree in southern Israel was “horrific” and unjustifiable, but what is “also true is that the occupation and what’s happening to Palestinians is unbearable,” former President Barack Obama said in comments published Saturday.
–
>”There is a history of the Jewish people that may be dismissed unless your grandparents or your great grandparents or your uncle or your aunt tell you stories about the madness of antisemitism,” Obama said. “And what is true is that there are people right now who are dying who have nothing to do with what Hamas did.”
–
>”The problem with the social media and trying to TikTok activism — and trying to debate this on that — is you can’t speak the truth,” Obama said. “You can pretend to speak the truth. You can speak one side of the truth, and in some cases, you can try to maintain your moral innocence. But that won’t solve the problem.” If you want to solve the problem, Obama continued, “then you have to take in the whole truth and you then have to admit nobody’s hands are clean — that all of us are complicit to some degree.”
no shit
According to Republicans it’s their fault for being born there.
A lot of us tried to warn that this would be how it goes in in the early days, but we were yelled at and called terrorist sympathizers and the “A” word.
The general public are the ones who suffer in every war
Obama bares a share of the fault for making Hamas a quasi-legitimate actor in the first place and pushing Israel to prevent its government’s collapse.
You could say the same for every war ever fought .
Obama is saying nobody has clean hands in this and we must acknowledge that.
Hamas does use civilians as cover and Israel does drop bombs on Hamas killing civilians
So is it just Isreal’s turn to do a Holocaust? I wasn’t in charge of the Genocide Wheel this week so I don’t really know.
I respect Obama’s opinion, but I don’t agree. Hamas was elected to be representative government of Palestine on the platform of destroying Israel. When the 10/7 attack took place, Palestinian adults poured into the streets to celebrate. When the Erez border crossing was attacked, Palestinians “civilians” not part of the initial Hamas attack rushed through and took part in the massacre. The children are innocent but the fact remains that most Palestinian adults ideologically support Hamas and their actions, and many provide material support.
And yet the Palestinians still won’t return the hostages.
Do they not care about their people?
They sure like to hide behind innocent people.
Israel can go ahead and sanction Obama now, like they denied to provide security to Carter.
A lot of them are just poor people (kids) trying to live their lives.
Israel needs to stop!! The US should not take part in revenge killing of innocent people.
In 2012 I was being given a ride home by a coworker. She was an American-born Jew. It was right after “Binders Full of Women” became a meme. She said that even though she hated Romney, she could never vote for Obama because he refused to say he would fully support Israel in every one of their endeavors.
He didn’t mention a specific instance. He didn’t say he supported Palastine. He was not trying to withdraw financial backing. He simply said that he would look at Israel’s actions and requests individually.
That was a weird car ride home after that.
Hold on, I’m getting the MAGA translation in my earpiece now:
“Obama says war in Gaza is killing Hamas, calls for ceasefire”
that is the point
us misused 911 to attack iraq who we wanted to find a reason to attack and take over
israel misusing 107 to attack palestinians who israel wanted to find a reason to attack and remove
Yes. This is why war is hell. Peace is always better. Who started this war?
Our war in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria did the same
Someone should definitely argue that innocent people are dying here. Someone. But no one from the United States. We just raged in retribution in the Middle East for two decades. Our high horse ran away a long time ago.
There’s a reason I say Hamas and Netanyahu are the main problems.
I really miss this man. I miss being able to be proud of the President in his skill as an orator and his compassion for Americans.
Hamas killed people in Israel that had nothing to do with what Israeli government did. Tit for tat. The two obnoxious gangs callously call the innocent victims “collateral damage,” or “martyrs,” as if that justifies their bullshit actions. Maybe if Israel and the West Bank both became one big, empty, pulverized nuclear wasteland, then the whole world could finally have some peace. Take the whole Middle East into radioactive oblivion with them. The rest of us around the world won’t miss any of them nor their constant ridiculous religious and political bickering! Seriously, I wish a giant meteor would just direct hit Jerusalem and take out the whole country, like the one that hit the Yucatán peninsula. Who cares anymore if 1/3 of the planet gets wiped out in the process? We’re all sick of this shit and it’s time for another planetary purge.
Sad indeed. But if a neighboring country did that to the US. There wouldn’t be a neighbor anymore.
what Hamas *is doing*, would be the better choice of words.
all wars do that, kill innocents. Hamas knew what would happen to Gaza and yet committed their atrocities anyways. I like Obama, but he is in a very easy seat to wax eloquently over the problem.
Obama, spitting fax, as usual
I feel terrible for the ones that didn’t vote for, support, and hide Hamas.
Obama is an excellent authority on this subject because he has direct experience with massacring innocent civilians at a disproportionate rate in the proclaimed pursuit of waging a war on terrorists.
I hate this situation so much.
The moment I heard about the Oct 7th attack, I knew this is exactly what was going to happen .
With everything we know about this conflict, and the history of the IDF, that very moment the news broke, and I saw people’s reactions, I knew with certainty in a few weeks we would be seeing headlines about Israel attacking refugee camps. They have done it many times before.
It’s really disappointing how people didn’t see this blatantly obvious chain of events coming.
Yes Israel has a right to defend themselves, and fuck Hamas they are trash. But they aren’t defending themselves right now, they are just committing some light genocide. Which has been bibi’s wish for decades.
This A-hole is why Israel and the world are in this situation in the first place with his horrendous foreign policy and appeasement of Iran
Damn.
I work retail. Same grocery store almost a year now.
Seeing this dude’s face and name pop up in what’s normally my most anxiety-inducing reddit stream has a weird parallel to the experience I have, every few weeks, when an awesome former colleague, one who’s gone on to better things, turns up smiling at my register, buying something.
Heavy subject matter, I don’t mean to detract from that, but damn.

Israel has been killing innocent Palestinians for decades. The largest aid bill to Israel ever [was supported by Obama and passed during his presidency](https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/14/world/middleeast/israel-benjamin-netanyahu-military-aid.html). I wonder how much of that $38 billion is being used to kill innocent Palestinians right now.

Like in every war about religion ever.
