Thursday I passed my driving test with flying colours. Dad added me to the insurance on the Micra and I’ve been having a blast. Last night it suddenly cut out and wouldn’t restart. A female police officer happened to be behind me and kindly rolled me back onto the pavement out of the way of the road (it happened at a set of traffic lights) before wrapping police tape around it and driving me home to sort out recovery. Three hours later the chap goes out to get it for me and it’s gone. I report it as missing/stolen to the police who find it this morning 5 miles away down a quiet back lane, window smashed, number plates gone, everything inside taken and the catalytic converter pinched. Police think they smashed the window, rolled it back onto a flat truck and proceeded to strip it before dumping it somewhere quiet. I’m utterly heartbroken. Why are people so cruel and selfish? Obviously they have no idea the amount of shit I’ve been through this year, but clearly they wouldn’t even care.

Anyone else ever experienced something so rotten with their vehicle? I’m scrapping it. Not worth the premium going up and I never want to look at it again.

Tldr; within 48 hours of passing my test I broke down and the vehicle got stolen and stripped.

  1. Sorry to hear this , the world is full of selfish cunts.

  2. I’m sorry this happened to you.

    Better car times ahead hopefully.

  3. I honestly feel for you. When you’re down in the dumps and something like this happens it’s just comical. You try hard to improve your life and get shot down so quick. Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Bad place, bad time 😔

  4. That’s really horrible. Is it really easier to scrap it than get it repaired (bypassing insurance)?

  5. I assume the police tape made them think it was abandoned and destined for the scrapyard.

  6. I’m really sorry! There are such terrible people in the world. I visited my dads memorial bench today and his remembrance plaque has been stolen for the second time and someone has carved a penis in to the wood. It’s so disheartening.

  7. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

I have a more light heated story about getting my car broken into, hopefully it’ll give you a laugh:
I’ve lived in some real shitholes but the one nice place I lived is where my car got broken into. It was an older 306 and they got in by pulling the window down with duct tape, sticking their fingers in the door gap and leaning backwards. The door bent in half easily. How do I know it was easy? After I took it to get dusted for prints I couldn’t afford a new door, so I did exactly what the wannabe thief did and bent it back myself 🙂 no harder than bending the lid of a tin of baked beans.

The best part was, I’m a cheap bastard so all my stuff (sat nav, jumpers, shoes) had been rifled through and not one thing taken 🙂

  8. Some vile people out there. I remember once getting into my car to go and do a night shift, just waking up but it was dark, sat in the drivers seat and thought something felt a bit off, started the car and realised my windscreen was completely shattered and I was sat on broken glass. Got out, took a look and there were footprints on the bonnet.

Why would anyone stand on my fiesta’s bonnet and stomp the windscreen? It just made me upset.

Cars aren’t people or cats etc though. They don’t have feelings. As long as you’re okay and nothing personal was taken, you can recover from this, as annoying as it is.

  9. Two steps up followed by one step down and vice versa.. been the same for me for 47 years keep your chin up because your next step up will be a good one and remember you need a sense of humour for life because sometimes it seems unfathomably cruel.

  10. When I was a poor first driver, someone once tried to break into my parked car. They tried to crowbar 2 doors and the boot open, unsuccessfully (but bending all the metalwork), the alarm must have been going off by this time, so they also tried to crowbar the bonnet open to silence it. Finally, they smashed the window, and all they stole were some empty CD cases. All that damage for nothing.

  11. I feel your pain, same thing happened to me a few years ago. Fucking heart breaking, you work hard, you keep to yourself and some absolute waste of oxygen thinks they can do this to you.
Keep your head up, this is a setback but you’re 10x the person they are.

  12. I’m so sorry. We once had a minivan stolen and found in another part of town, trashed. The police said it was probably used in a drive-by. Two weeks later we got it back from the repair shop, but it was never the same. You’re doing the right thing getting rid of it; it would always feel gross.

  13. OP I’m so sorry to hear this, I can’t imagine how you are feeling. I know that you feel a bit traumatised about it and don’t want to see the car again, but please try not to make any quick decisions. I completely understand not wanting to go through insurance but I’d suggest you get a quote to repair it and weigh up whether it’s better to scrap it, repair on your insurance or pay out of pocket. The reason I say this is because you might be better off repairing it then selling it rather than scraping it. There’s probably people out there who could help more but just thought I’d give you something to think about. I don’t think you need to make any quick decisions, just look after yourself. X

  14. Sorry to hear that. It must be difficult for you at the moment. And there’s always people that are really mean and horrible around and the person that did that is definitely one of those people.

  15. Christ, I’d be in tears if this happened to my 107. I’m so sorry about what happened to your Micra (I was going to get one, as I think they’re amazing cars). I’d hope you’ll send it for spares or repairs, so other Micra’s can benefit and we can keep them on the road for longer.

  16. I was initially so confused by your title like why would a vent help with broken glass all over your car’s floor? Did he break a window to add a vent to his car? Why would you want a window vent? Then I read your post and it all made a lot more sense. Big feels for you here I got hit by two wankers racing each other this summer write off for the car and couldn’t catch the plates. Cars are a cruel world but the freedom of movement in our car based society (especially in Cornwall) is a trade off. This is a low point but we’re all here rooting for you!

  17. I’ve had my fiesta ST stolen last year, never been found. I spent years saving up for it as it was my dream car. The world is just full of selfish cunts.

  18. I feel your pain.

Two days ago, I got a text from one of my neighbours, and went outside to see my car [looking like this](https://imgur.com/X4pEQ4M).

They had the entire front bumper array plus headlights, the bonnet, and the infotainment/stereo/etc out of the inside. The small blessing is that they didn’t actually rip out anything essential in the engine bay, the car still drove fine. Snipped wires everywhere though.

It’s currently with my insurer to see what’s going to happen with it. Police useless, naturally, since no CCTV or hard evidence of any kind – twp of my neighbours helpfully told me they both heard weird noises at 12:30 that night but neither investigated. Still not clear why the car alarm didn’t go off when they broke the window.

Just bummed out. I’ve barely had the car a month. Even after its sorted, and repaired/replaced, I have no idea how I’m going to ever feel safe letting it out of my sight again. Going to be checking the dashcam hourly…

  19. Might want to get that licence plate taken off insurance (or however it works).

  20. I, more or less, inherited my late granddad’s car. My first car, many long distance trips… victim of arson. Some bastard just set it alight one night. Gutted.

  21. That really is horrible.

If you’ve the energy it’s worth walking the route you know they took.

Any houses with ring doorbells or cctv are worth a knock.

I know it’s not your job but the police are so overrun with stuff where people are at risk they won’t do it.

I hope your luck changes and enjoy the ice cream

  22. I’ve fortunately never had anything as shitty as what happened to you. However, as someone who likes to take a lot of care with their car, washing it weekly, polishing it, parking as far away from others as possible etc… I’ve lost count of the number of times i’ve come back to my car to find someone has hit, scraped or otherwise damaged it in some way, only to drive off.

I know some people don’t care about their own car, and they may not think my car is anything special or “worthy” of being treated well or that “it’s only a tiny scratch” but i’ll never understand the people who think that damaging someone else’s property and just running away is an ok thing to do.

  23. Some people are massive pieces of shit and I hope karma bites these thieves back.

I’m so sorry this happened. But remember there is a lot of good in the world, don’t forget that.

Pick yourself up and carry on, you can drive now, this is a set back but you’ll be ok. Look after your mum and remember things will be ok

  24. I had my car written off a few years ago, which was damaged by an absolute bellend who just didn’t know the rules of the road. Unfortunately it was deemed 50/50 and it took forever and a day for the insurance to sort it out. I need my car for work so getting to work was such a hassle. Luckily my mum had just sold her house so was able to lend me some money to buy a new car while the insurance was dragging their feet. I had a solicitor and everything to try and shift all the blame onto him but sadly to no avail. I now have a dash cam which has ultimately saved me a year or so ago when someone rear ended me and tried to get out of it.

What made it hurt was it was my dream car and I wanted it for so long. It was in my favourite colour too. It was a beautiful car. I still have its replacement 7 years later and hopefully for many more to come (touch wood 👉🪵)

  25. I’ve know a few people who say their car isn’t the same after being stolen, even when there’s been no damage.

Remember the fond memories of Micra.
