Farmers in England will be given taxpayers’ cash to rewild their land, under plans for large-scale nature recovery projects announced by the government.
These will lead to vast tracts of land being newly managed to conserve species, provide habitats for wildlife and restore health to rivers and streams.
In Wales we have lots of moor land covering old coal tips, every year when we have weeks of rain we have to worry about landslides, you’d think they would plant up these moors with trees. But no that’s never crossed the minds of those in charge.
The people who think this is a great idea will be the same people who’ll complain about the carbon emissions from importing food and the same people who’ll lecture about the pressure of food production on water supplies elsewhere in the world.
That’s good. Intensive farming is harmful to the soil. They say some land only has another 20ish harvests before it’s pretty much useless. Although I did hear that on Jeremy Clarksons Farm show.
I bet there were some at the Grauniad who had a mental meltdown at having to print a positive story about the Tories.
Awesome, since simple proper farming policies don’t exist in Turkey, I guess we have to wait a century to see the return of flatland forests.
Something to be proud of. Good
Well, that’s one way of claiming a positive when we don’t have enough farmers any more.
