What is this metal strip next to my dorm room window? All the windows have it. I am an international who moved to the UK for the first for education and I have been wondering about it for a while. It also pops out a bit if pressed in. What is its function?

7. If you rub the tip of the bit that pops out then it’ll pop out even more

8. This is an air vent. It is important that it is opened, especially in winter.

   It prevents condensation and mould. Pretty important.
